Job summary

Underwriter Services Association is seeking experienced Commercial Loss Control Consultants to visit accounts in the Williamsport area. Independent contractors (1099) perform insurance inspections and provide consultative visits, paid per completed report or hourly.

Job description

Commercial Loss Control Consultant – Independent Contractor

We are looking for experienced Commercial Lines Loss Control Consultants to visit accounts in the area to perform insurance inspections and consultative visits. At least three years of experience is preferred, but certifications such as CSP or ARM may be accepted. Independent loss control consultants (1099) work independently and efficiently to meet hard due dates and are paid by the completed report. Appointments are set at the mutual convenience of the inspector and property contact. Orders are sent and completed reports are returned through a cloud‑based system. This contract‑based work is paid at a flat rate per inspection or hourly, depending on the client requirements. Payments are made weekly upon full completion and submission of the report.

The ideal candidate has the physical ability to assess the condition of a property, strong communication and technology skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to quickly turn around work. The candidate must bring their own equipment (computer, digital camera, scanner, cell phone, etc.), reliable transportation, and be available for calls.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience completing property and casualty lines insurance loss control surveys and reports.
  • A thorough understanding of general liability and property lines of coverage.
  • Basic understanding of commercial auto, workers compensation, and inland marine lines of coverage preferred.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to meet hard due dates with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to adequately assess the physical condition of a property.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Basic computer operating, typing, and internet skills. Some assistance can be provided by Preferred Reports if the work relates directly to our system.
  • Own a computer with Windows operating system.
  • Be a self‑starter and require little motivation.
  • Stay on top of assignments, avoiding last‑minute crunches.
  • Follow directions and instructions carefully.
  • Be detail oriented and well organized with a flexible schedule.
  • Must have a reliable car with the ability to cover a wide territory.
  • Must have a digital camera, high‑speed internet access with excellent knowledge of Microsoft products, and a measure wheel or similar device.
  • Current resume; subject to background check (criminal records, possibly drug screen). Bilateral language skills are a plus.
Responsibilities

  • Take digital photos of properties.
  • Identify and document any hazards/controls that are found at the property.
  • Complete on‑site management interviews regarding the property, as required.
  • Upload report/photo through a cloud‑based system.
  • Complete online training courses, as required.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
  • Follow all safety and security procedures.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
