Job summary

Starr Specialty Lines Insurance Agency, LLC in Dallas seeks a risk control engineer to conduct site surveys, evaluate risks, and prepare technical reports for underwriting teams and clients. The role includes 35% overnight travel and a company car, with hybrid on-site work arrangements.

You will lead plan reviews, maintain loss control data, and provide guidance to underwriting staff on risk quality and insurability.

Qualifications

• College graduate with strong communication and relationship skills; preferably Civil, Construction, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering degree.
• Degree from an accredited engineering program is desired; relevant industry experience will also be considered.
• Some prior experience with insurance loss control would provide a background in risk assessment concepts and industry standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer system skills.

• Produce narrative risk assessment loss control reports for underwriting and clients.

• Attend client meetings and manage own schedule with supervision from North American Construction Property Manager.

Responsibilities

• On‑site surveys (45%) and risk evaluation (25%) of existing and prospective Starr Tech clients, compiling critical technical data and best practices (20%), and attending client meetings (10%).
• Provide a company car.
• Position requires 35% overnight travel or stay (Hybrid).
• Engineer will be responsible for maintaining own schedule, monitored by the North American Construction Property Manager.
• Primary responsibility is to conduct risk assessments for small, medium and large projects of varying risk classifications (buildings, civil infrastructure, energy, chemical, petrochemical, process industries).
• Produce narrative risk assessment loss control internal reports for the underwriting team and external risk reports for the client and/or follow insurers.
• Conduct plan reviews and provide guidance to underwriting staff regarding risk quality and insurability.
• Maintain up‑to‑date loss control systems (ELCS) data.
