Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a responsible substitute teacher assistant to support the physical education teacher and reinforce material through repetition. You will assist in classroom management, student supervision, and basic office tasks, with setup of class equipment.
Start date is immediate; FTE 1.000. After substituting for 20 consecutive days, the long-term rate of pay applies (17.56 per hour after 20 days); the 21st day onward uses the long-term rate as described in the
Perform responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting the physical education teacher with instructional activities and assisting students to reinforce material already presented through special efforts and repetitions.
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in physical education teaching; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of physical education equipment; ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates.
Substitute Long Term TA Rate ($17.56 per hour after 20 consecutive days)
End Date - December 2026
After substituting for 20 consecutive days in this position, the long-term rate will apply upon the 21st day of substituting. For the first 20 days daily sub rates apply and once the 21st day is reached the difference between the daily rate and the long-term rate will be paid as back pay in the next check for that pay period.
The substitute candidate selected for this position will only receive the long-term rate of pay if eligible for this rate (see above).
