Join to apply for the Logistics Warehouse Specialist role at The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Logistics Warehouse Specialist to join the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University to support a Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Program. The successful candidate will manage shipping and receiving of critical supplies and equipment to both CONUS (Continental United States) and OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) locations, ensuring compliance with DoD regulations and policies. This position requires a proactive problem solver who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

You will:
  1. Assist in developing and executing logistics plans, policies, and procedures to support the DoD Joint Program objectives.
  2. Maintain accurate inventory records, track asset movement, and conduct periodic audits to ensure accountability and compliance with DoD regulations.
  3. Prepare and process all required shipping documentation, including DD Form 1348, MIRR, and CBL.
  4. Manage receipt, storage, and shipment of materials and equipment supporting DoD Joint Program requirements in accordance with established guidelines.
  5. Implement and maintain an efficient warehouse layout to optimize storage, workflow, and safety.
  6. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely delivery of shipments to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  7. Ensure compliance with HAZMAT shipping regulations, including proper packaging, labeling, and handling.
  8. Collaborate with program management and procurement teams to resolve shipment discrepancies or damages.
  9. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for warehouse operations and logistics performance.
  10. Operate MHE such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors to load/unload shipments and move inventory.
Minimum requirements include:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred: Degree in supply chain management, logistics, or related field.
Required skills/experience:
  • At least 4 years in logistics, warehousing, or supply chain management, preferably in a DoD or military environment.
  • Knowledge of DoD logistics regulations and procedures.
  • Experience with shipping/receiving HAZMAT in compliance with regulations.
  • Proficient in MHE and WMS.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform warehouse tasks.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Military experience in logistics or supply chain management.
  • Experience within U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Army logistics roles.
  • Familiarity with military and DoD logistics processes.

Salary range: $46,400 - $67,300, impacted by geographic differential.
