Job summary

Virginia Commercial Space is seeking a Logistics Specialist I to manage the flow of goods and information from origin through scheduling, coordination, and support for the MARS Logistics Director.

You will handle inventory control, procurement, shipping/receiving, and maintenance tracking across the organization with occasional travel and overnight tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Process purchase requests and link to work orders.
  • Maintain Inventory Control System and Work Orders.
  • Receive and verify deliveries, update PO receipts in the system.
  • Inspect materials and ensure paperwork is complete.
  • Manage transmittals and restock parts inventories.
  • Perform periodic inventory audits and replenishment.
  • Coordinate field logistics and transport to sites.
  • Support calibration, commodity, and fleet coordination as needed.

Logistics Specialist I

Full Time Wallops Island, VA, US

Salary Range: $22.80 To $29.74 Hourly

General Description: The Logistics Support Specialist I will control the efficient flow of goods, services and information between the points of origin through scheduling and coordination of support for, inventory control, ordering materials/supplies/repair parts from vendors, shipping and receiving, tracking of maintenance/alteration/repair actions in the organizations tracking systems, and technical administrative support to the MARS Logistics Director. The Specialist I will assist with delivering assets to support work activities across functional areas.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Processes purchase requests for procurement of materials and services including linking to work requests for billing, approvals, and integration with the organizations master schedule.
  • Supports the maintenance of the MARS Inventory Control System/Work Orders that includes stocking, database entry, material tracking, and preparing transmittals.
  • Receives delivered materials, equipment, and supplies, confirms that all parts match the Purchase Order descriptions and expected quantity, document arrival condition and verify all necessary paperwork is received,updating receipt of Purchase Orders in the appropriate system.
  • Supports receipt inspection of materials, supplies, spares, and repair parts to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Assists with Transmittals, parts sent to cleaning, and restocking parts inventories.
  • Performs periodic inventory audits.
  • Assesses inventory levels and coordinates replenishment as necessary.
  • Organizes and manages inventory certificate of conformance for all pad components.
  • Fulfills pick sheet requests for materials and supplies needed for use in the field.
  • Makes all logistical related runs (To the field, pickups from Lowes, Home Depot etc.).
  • Performs occasional overnight tasks that may require travel out of state.
  • Perform other duties based on job role or as assigned by supervisor or Director of Logistics.
  • Job specific roles that may be assigned would include Calibration Coordinator, Commodity Coordinator, and Fleet Coordinator.
  • Calibration Coordinator is responsible for managing the Calibration Master List, providing updated information monthly to the field team on due dates and component recall,coordinating and shipping assets to qualified service providers for calibration services. Monitoring compliance to the company calibration process.
  • Commodity Coordinator is responsible for managing all the orders and deliveries of commodities in communication with the facility manager’s needs. Responsible for tracking and submitting the purchase requests for all commodity orders utilizing the appropriate charge code information. Responsible for helping with forecasting and planning upcoming needs and communicating with the commodity provider.
  • Fleet Coordinator is responsible for managing the maintenance and tracking of all MARS vehicles and mobile assets. Responsible for tracking maintenance history and tracking issues with the fleet as communicated by the operator. Responsible for scheduling and communicating all maintenance activities requiring equipment downtime.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

General Education: High School Degree

Job-Related Experience:Relevant coursework is desired but not required. Specialized training in material management, inventory control, or procurement is desired. Experience operating forklifts or willingness to obtain certification is desired.

At least one (1) year of relevant experience in Logistics, Mechanical Logistics, Procurement, Material Management, or Technical Administrative Support.

Preferred but not required:A general understanding of mechanical parts such as valves, relief valves, gauges, actuators, flanges, etc.

Certifications:N/A

Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of logistics-related processes and regulations.

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related programs.

Physical Demands: Work is light requiring lifting of computer equipment and involves typical office behaviors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Position may travel between sites.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a typical office setting.

Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
