Job summary

Summit School Services is seeking a Logistics Specialist to coordinate student transportation, assign drivers and vehicles, and maintain route integrity for timely service. You will support drivers, monitor operations, and ensure compliance with district and state requirements.

This role requires basic computer skills, map-reading ability, and strong communication to handle scheduling, emergencies, and stakeholder inquiries while maintaining high ethical standards and accurate records.

Qualifications

The Logistics Specialist position coordinates the transportation of students to and from school, special events, field trips and other related sponsored activities. This role supports the overall operations for drivers, monitors, staff, and vehicle activities to ensure safe, on-time service and customer satisfaction. Maintains the highest level of ethical behavior with our customers, fellow employees and the communities we serve.

Major Responsibilities

• Directs and monitors daily assignments; schedules drivers, bus assistants, and assigns vehicles to ensure daily coverage of all routes, field trips, and charter work.
• Ensures direct and indirect daily activities of drivers and bus assistants are assigned and accomplished on-time.
• Communicates all relevant details of driving assignments to drivers to ensure proper execution.
• Assist drivers with routing directions and directs them to perform special services when required.
• Responds to emergency calls, facilitates emergency response network, coordinates mechanical service repair, and assigns replacement buses and drivers when there is a problem on a route.
• Notifies District and building personnel of all changes in route assignments, emergency situations, accidents, breakdowns or any other event that will disrupt service.
• Maintains route documentation and records (relevant contract requirements, school information, student data, route changes, relevant maps, vehicle details, bus assignments, driver details) for the purpose of providing accurate and reliable information to customers and complies with district and state requirements.
• Coordinates vehicle service and mechanical repairs with Maintenance Supervisor to assure uninterrupted service delivery.
• Maintains high compliance to dispatch standard operating procedures.
• Handles customer concerns and requests for information in an expeditious and professional manner.
• Escalates unresolved issues to management as appropriate.
• Produce and maintain a master record of all routes and provide operating copies daily.
• Read and keep up to date with all documents relating to the routing program. (Manuals, updates, maps, etc.)
• Produce and maintain cost efficient and timely routes.
• Meet all deadlines relating to schedules set up for the routing process.
• Coordinate with staff to establish route standards for time and miles.
• Provide excellent customer service when working directly with customers, parents and employees.
• Produce and maintain a written record of problems related to the routing program on a daily basis with clean copies to the General Manager weekly.
• Maintain the work area in a neat and professional condition daily.
• Maintain a professional appearance.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Perform related duties as assigned to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
• Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Years of Work Experience: Minimum 6 months related experience
• Previous logistics, dispatch or routing experience.
• Must possess intermediate or above computer skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize time to balance conflicting demands related to customer care and routing.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers in fast-paced and/or stressful environment (interpersonal & telephone skills).
• Ability to problem solve in an effort to meet schedule requirements.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to read road and street maps and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to keep organized and accurate records relating to overall dispatch and routing responsibilities.

Desired

• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements.
• Experience with routing software
• Knowledge of surrounding geographic area to ensure effective and efficient routing.
