Job summary

Gerdau is seeking a Logistics Operator on the night shift at the Midlothian facility. The role involves loading, unloading and transporting materials with heavy industrial forklifts and other mobile equipment to support production lines.

Responsibilities include following the production schedule, performing quality checks, and aiding inventory management. Basic English, a high school diploma or GED, and safety readiness are required. Overtime nights and weekends may be necessary.

Qualifications

Job Summary: The open position is for night shift.

This is an entry level position for the Solar Pile fabrication facility. This position is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting of materials to designated locations throughout the Solar Pile Fabrication facility using heavy industrial forklifts or other mobile equipment. Incumbent will be responsible for inspecting incoming material for bar quality and loading/unloading the process conveyor lines to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be capable of safely operating large forklifts, overhead cranes, and other mobile equipment to move material in the solar pile fabrication process. This includes completion of all required pre-use inspections, routine equipment care, and optimizing movement of material for operational efficiency.
  • Accurately follow the production schedule and load conveyor systems with the correct steel product at the infeed.
  • General material handling which includes offloading mill material, loading material onto the infeed table, offloading finished product at the outfeed table, and general movement of inventory and/or materials inside and outside the shop.
  • Maintain accurate production records which may require completion of paper forms or checklists, the use of scanning guns, tablets, computers, et.
  • Assists with inventory management which includes, but is not limited to, accurately identifying and counting bundles, validating the physical location of materials, restocking materials, et.
  • Assists team members with the rework process following established guidelines.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure customers receive prime material that meets their specification and expectations. Visual inspections include but are not limited to: ensuring proper paint color, squareness, length, saw cuts, and overall bar quality.
  • Follow ISO standards and practices striving for zero defects, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • This position will be required to work some overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays depending on production goals.
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with other team members, leadership, customers, and suppliers.
  • Follow all PPE requirements and safety rules/guidelines for tasks being performed. This includes immediately reporting any incident or accident that can reasonably affect someone’s safety, effectiveness of the work process, or equipment conditions.
  • Follow all environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition following 5S standards.
  • Assists in training of coworkers as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic understanding of English, written and verbal

1-2 years mobile equipment experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
  • Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to work in high ambient temperatures.
  • Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
  • Ability to wear required PPE
