Job summary

Allan Myers, a leading self-performing heavy civil construction and construction materials company, seeks a Logistics Manager to plan, coordinate, and optimize transportation and logistics operations across quarries, asphalt plants, and construction crews in the Mid-Atlantic region.

You will balance customer service, production schedules, safety, and cost control to improve fleet productivity and carrier relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of transportation, logistics, fleet management, dispatch leadership, or related operational experience.
  • Experience in construction materials, aggregates, asphalt, trucking, or heavy industrial operations preferred.
  • Experience managing company-owned fleets and third-party transportation providers preferred.
  • Strong understanding of transportation, logistics, fleet utilization, and dispatch operations.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and related regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee daily transportation and logistics activities supporting aggregate, asphalt, and construction operations.
  • Coordinate material movement, delivery schedules, and transportation resources to meet production and customer requirements.
  • Ensure adequate fleet and carrier capacity to support operational demands.
  • Monitor and improve truck utilization, route efficiency, cycle times, and overall fleet productivity.
  • Manage scheduling, dispatch, routing, and logistics planning activities.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, customers, plant personnel, and third-party carriers to ensure efficient material flow.
  • Manage carrier and supplier relationships while negotiating services and resolving operational issues.
  • Evaluate carrier performance related to safety, service, reliability, and cost.
  • Support onboarding, compliance monitoring, and performance management of transportation partners.
  • Lead dispatchers, partner with Transportation Manager and Field Managers.
  • Allocate resources and personnel effectively to meet changing operational needs.
  • Provide coaching, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with driver qualifications, hours-of-service regulations, vehicle inspections, and maintenance programs.
  • Participate in accident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Conduct operational audits and support ongoing safety initiatives.
  • Manage transportation budgets and operating costs.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators including: On-time delivery performance, Fleet utilization, Cost per ton transported, Fuel efficiency, Customer service metrics, Carrier performance.
  • Utilize operational and financial data to identify trends, solve problems, and implement process improvements.
  • Support forecasting, planning, and budget development activities.

Responsibilities

The Logistics Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing transportation and logistics operations that support aggregate quarries, asphalt plants, paving crews, and construction projects. This position oversees the efficient movement and storage of materials while balancing customer service, production schedules, transportation capacity, safety, and cost control.

The Logistics Manager serves as a key liaison between plant operations, dispatch personnel, trucking resources, suppliers, customers, and field operations. The role is responsible for maximizing fleet utilization, managing carrier relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Transportation & Logistics Operations

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of transportation, logistics, fleet management, dispatch leadership, or related operational experience.
  • Experience within construction materials, aggregates, asphalt, trucking, or heavy industrial operations preferred.
  • Experience managing company-owned fleets and third-party transportation providers preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of transportation, logistics, fleet utilization, and dispatch operations.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial data and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience with dispatch, GPS, routing, telematics, and transportation management systems; XBE is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proficient with technology and data management systems.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to travel periodically to plants, customer locations, supplier facilities, and company operations.
  • May be required to operate a company vehicle in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary to support operational demands.
