  • Analyze warehouse operations, material flow, labor utilization, inventory movement to identify opportunities for improved productivity and cost reduction.
  • Develop and optimize layouts and storage to maximize space utilization and efficiency.
  • Evaluate capacity and develop plans based on inventory, volumes, and production needs.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement data-driven solutions to improve throughput.
  • Develop standard work, SOPs, and performance metrics for warehouse activities.
  • Establish KPIs for labor, inventory accuracy, space, throughput, and service levels.
  • Design material flow routes for internal transportation.
  • Improve picking, replenishment, put-away, receiving, and staging processes.
  • Support JIT material delivery and material presentation systems.
  • Apply Lean and CI tools (VSM, 5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, Visual Management) for waste elimination.
  • Lead or support Kaizen projects from identification to implementation.
  • Analyze labor needs and improve efficiency via optimization, standardization, and automation.
  • Evaluate equipment and storage systems to improve safety, capacity, and efficiency.
  • Support design and standardization of returnable racks, containers, and carts.
  • Develop visual management systems for inventory locations, staging, and performance boards.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to set inventory, replenishment, storage and delivery parameters.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve inbound flow, packaging, delivery frequency, and container utilization.
  • Optimize internal material flow from receiving to point-of-use delivery.
  • Support WMS/ERP processes (SAP/EWM), locations, movements, replenishment, data accuracy.
  • Use data analysis to identify gaps, root causes, and opportunities.
  • Conduct time studies and capacity analysis to set labor standards.
  • Investigate issues with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure processes meet safety, quality, ergonomic, and operational requirements.
  • Engage staff in CI initiatives and promote problem-solving culture.
  • Act as change agent to introduce improved methods and standardized practices.
  • Interface with teams to implement improvement initiatives.
  • Standardize logistics processes, metrics, and best practices across warehouses.

Job description

The Logistics Engineer - Warehouse is responsible for improving the efficiency, productivity, safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of warehouse and logistics operations. The role analyzes current warehouse processes, material flow, storage systems, labor utilization, equipment, and logistics methods to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

The Logistics Engineer works closely with Warehouse Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to implement Lean principles, optimize warehouse layouts and material flows, eliminate waste, and establish standardized processes and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze warehouse operations, material flow, labor utilization, inventory movement, and operating methods to identify opportunities for improved productivity, efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Develop and optimize warehouse layouts, storage locations, staging areas, picking areas, receiving/shipping areas, and material presentation to maximize space utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate warehouse capacity and develop capacity plans based on inventory levels, material volumes, production requirements, and future business needs.
  • Identify warehouse process bottlenecks and develop data-driven solutions to improve throughput, reduce delays, and increase operational performance.
  • Develop and maintain standard work, process standards, operating procedures, and performance metrics for warehouse and logistics activities.
  • Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for warehouse operations, including labor productivity, inventory accuracy, space utilization, throughput, picking performance, material handling, and service levels.
  • Design and optimize material flow routes, including forklift, tugger, cart, pedestrian, and other internal transportation routes.
  • Evaluate and improve picking, replenishment, put-away, receiving, staging, kitting, and line-side delivery processes.
  • Support the design and implementation of efficient Just-in-Time (JIT) material delivery and material presentation systems.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles, including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, Visual Management, waste elimination, and root cause analysis.
  • Lead and/or support Kaizen and continuous improvement projects from opportunity identification through implementation, including project selection, business justification, planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Analyze warehouse labor requirements and develop opportunities to improve labor efficiency through process optimization, standardization, automation, and improved work methods.
  • Evaluate material handling equipment, storage systems, racks, carts, containers, and other warehouse infrastructure to improve safety, ergonomics, capacity, and efficiency.
  • Support the identification, design, implementation, and standardization of returnable racks, containers, kit carts, sequence racks, picking carts, and other material handling solutions.
  • Develop and maintain visual management systems for warehouses, including inventory locations, staging areas, picking zones, material routes, safety areas, and performance boards.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations teams to establish appropriate inventory, replenishment, storage, delivery, and material-handling parameters.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve inbound material flow, packaging, delivery frequency, container utilization, and overall logistics efficiency.
  • Work with warehouse and manufacturing teams to optimize internal material flow from receiving through storage, picking, staging, and point-of-use delivery.
  • Support warehouse management system and ERP processes, including SAP/EWM transactions, warehouse locations, inventory movements, replenishment processes, and data accuracy.
  • Utilize data analysis to identify process gaps, determine root causes, quantify improvement opportunities, and support business decisions.
  • Conduct time studies, work measurements, process observations, and capacity analysis to establish appropriate labor and process standards.
  • Investigate operational problems using structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis techniques and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Ensure warehouse processes are designed and maintained in accordance with safety, quality, ergonomic, and operational requirements.
  • Engage employees at all organizational levels in continuous improvement initiatives and promote a culture of problem solving and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a change agent by challenging existing processes and introducing improved methods, technologies, and standardized practices.
  • Interface with Warehouse Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, IT, and other supporting functions to implement improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and standardize logistics processes, metrics, and best practices across warehouse operations and, where applicable, across multiple facilities.
  • Support new product introductions, facility expansions, warehouse relocations, and major process changes by providing logistics engineering expertise.
  • Evaluate opportunities for warehouse automation, material handling technology, and other digital solutions that can improve productivity, accuracy, safety, and cost.
  • Prepare project documentation, process maps, layouts, analysis, presentations, and implementation plans to communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
