Job summary

Hawkeye Forest Products LP., a subsidiary of Baillie Lumber Co., has an immediate opening for a Log Yard Technician in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. The role supports the flow of hardwood logs through sorting, scaling and decking using a front-end loader and knuckle boom.

Key duties include receiving and scaling logs by species and grade, recording data with handheld devices, operating a chainsaw as needed, and following safety policies.

Qualifications

• Receive and scale logs by species, grade and sort per company guidelines.
• Input species, grades and sorts with handheld data collectors.
• Operate a chainsaw as needed.
• Adhere to facility safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the incoming and outgoing flow of hardwood logs at the log yard.
• Sort, scale and deck logs using front-end loader/knuckle boom.

Education

Two-year technical program / forest products degree

Forestry/log yard experience (preferred)

General Job Description

The primary function of this position is to assist with the incoming and outgoing flow of hardwood logs at our log yard. Duties will include log sorting, scaling, and decking of logs utilizing a front-end loader and knuckle boom.

Specific Requirements

• Receiving and scaling incoming logs for species, grades and sorts per company guidelines.
• Operate handheld data collectors to input species, grades and sorts.
• Chainsaw operation as needed.
• Adherence to facility safety policies.
• Experience operating front-end loader and/or knuckle boom preferred.
• A degree from a two year technical program or 4 year undergraduate program in a forest products related filed will be considered as a substitute for field experience.
• Would be willing to train the right candidate.
