Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled locksmith associate to install, maintain, and repair locking systems across facilities. You will disassemble and replace worn parts, cut keys, and fabricate duplicates while tracking equipment and keyed doors.

A strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and adherence to department procedures is required. Applicants must be 18+ with substantial on-the-job trade training or a relevant technical program/certification.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older with four or more years of on-the-job training in a trade area.
• Completion of a relevant technical program or certification may substitute for experience.
• Experience with locking systems is required.

• Installs, maintains, and repairs locking systems; checks for proper operation of locking devices; disassembles padlocks/safe locks/door locks; repairs or replaces worn pins/springs/other parts; adjusts pin length; inserts new or repaired pins into locks to change combination; and fabricates new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine.
• Prepares and maintains a file of installed locks and a list of doors that are keyed together or separately; prepares and maintains a list of personnel assigned keys to facility locks; and maintains equipment/supply inventory.
• Performs work under the general direction of a designated supervisor and performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years or older with four or more years of on-the-job training in a trade area, or completion of a relevant technical program, or certification in relevant field.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!

If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
