Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a locksmith to install, maintain, and repair locking systems within a secure facility. You will check operation, disassemble and repair locks, and fabricate keys using a key cutting machine. You will also keep records of locks, doors, and assigned keys, and manage inventory.

Under supervision, you’ll perform related duties as assigned and contribute to facility security and safety through diligent workmanship and adherence to procedures.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Four or more years of on-the-job training in a trade area.
• Completion of a relevant technical program.
• Certification in a relevant field may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs locking systems; checks proper operation; disassembles padlocks/safe locks/door locks; repairs or replaces worn parts; adjusts pin length; inserts pins; fabricates keys.
• Prepares and maintains files of installed locks and lists of doors keyed together; tracks personnel with facility keys; maintains equipment/supply inventory.
• Performs work under general supervision and other related tasks as assigned.
