Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, is seeking a permanent Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic (WY-5318-08/10) to support the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division at Sault Sainte Marie, MI. The role covers maintenance of navigation locks and dam systems with multiple subsystems, including pneumatic, steam, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components.

Candidates must perform work without more than normal supervision, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varied conditions.

Qualifications

• Ability to do the work of a Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
• WY-8 and WY-10 minimum experience as described in the duties and qualifications.
• Physical abilities: lifting up to 50 pounds, working in adverse conditions.
• Background/suitability checks and security requirements as stated.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeyman workers with routine maintenance and repairs of lock and dam systems.
• Support repairs of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
• Coordinate with contractors on upgrade/repair projects and assist inspectors as needed.
• Participate in emergency 24-hour call-back program and monitor PLC/SCADA systems.
