Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers seeks a Lock and Dam Operator to assist with operating gates, managing lines, logging vessel times, and supporting maintenance at a lock wall facility in the Seattle area.

Under direct supervision, learn to operate electrical, electronic, and hydraulic controls, perform ground maintenance, and input vessel information into logs while complying with safety and drug testing programs.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform work under normal supervision.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and medical surveillance may be required.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with handling and snubbing bow/stern lines to assist pilots.
  • Walk lines to proper locations along the lock wall.
  • Secure vessel lines to the lock wall.
  • Under direct supervision, operate electrical, electronic, and hydraulic gate controls at one end of the chamber.
  • Learn to operate water control valves safely.
  • Clear ice, logs, and debris from gate paths and recesses.
  • Perform ground maintenance (mowing, snow shoveling, janitorial tasks).
  • Assist maintenance crews with routine repairs.
  • Input vessel times, registration, and direction into logs.
  • Use basic light and horn signals as directed.
