Job summary

Ervin Cable Construction, LLC is seeking an entry-level Locator in the Nashville area. You will locate and mark underground utilities, read maps, and document all locates while coordinating with excavators and crew members. The role requires strong communication and safety awareness in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities include on-site work, occasional travel, and potential after-hours duties. This is an entry-level field position focused on accurate locating and teamwork to support

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent work experience.
• Must be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate detection equipment to locate and mark underground utilities.
• Read utility maps to locate underground utilities accurately.
• Document all locates and maintain records.
• Respond promptly to excavation notices and coordinate with crews.
• Communicate clearly with excavators, utility representatives, and staff.
• Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary and work in all weather conditions.
• Work overtime, travel, and be on-call as needed.

What you’ll do

• Operate detection equipment to locate and mark underground utilities, seeking guidance from experienced Locators as needed
• Read utility maps to find underground utilities correctly
• Document all locates
• Respond promptly and courteously to excavation notices
• Communicate well with excavators, utility representatives, and company staff
• Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary
• Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/afterhours responsibilities as needed
• Perform work in all weather conditions

What you’ll need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, lift up to 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: use portable ladder, work in confined spaces and climb stairs
