This job posting is for a Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) POSITION and is being hosted on Cary’s site for the purposes of accepting applications to be provided to CAMPO. An applicant that may be hired for this, or any CAMPO position will be a CAMPO employee located at CAMPO’s Fenton offices in Cary, NC. Cary only provides certain limited administrative services to CAMPO employees, including health and welfare and other benefits.
The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is responsible for regional long‑range transportation planning for the rapidly growing region in the Raleigh, NC urban area. The MPO recently adopted a new strategic plan to help guide our region’s transportation program through the next several years. The Triangle region continues to experience unprecedented growth, producing a need for infrastructure improvements that offer a range of travel choices and are compatible with the character and development of our communities, sensitive to the environment, improve quality of life, and are safe and accessible for all. The Capital Area MPO works at the heart of identifying, planning, and implementing those improvements.
This position will oversee the MPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP). This position will serve as the MPO’s TIP Administrator and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and coordinate with the NCDOT to process TIP/STIP Amendments and development of new Transportation Improvement Programs. This position will also manage and coordinate federally funded, locally administered transportation projects through planning, engineering, project selection, programming, project development, completion and acceptance stages for the Capital Area MPO. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Deputy Director.
This position is based out of the CAMPO offices. This position may be eligible for partial telework schedule after the successful completion of an initial probationary period.
Salary Range - $86,945 - $143,466
Anticipated Hiring Range - $86,945 - $98,585
Work requires considerable independent professional judgment and initiative in resolving problems based on a comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State policies and various intergovernmental program regulations. Ability to work under pressure on several projects simultaneously and within time constraints; ability to perform independent research and develop recommendations; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to supervise other personnel in a project coordination role. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a graduation from a four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree in planning, engineering or a related field and a minimum of four years experience in project or program management, with two years’ experience in federal transportation project‑based work preferred.
A master’s degree in planning, engineering, or related field and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or AICP is highly desired. Experience with NCDOT construction projects is desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI finger‑printing, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
The work in this role is generally sedentary and is typically performed indoors. An employee must be able to move throughout facilities freely to perform or observe work. An employee must have visual acuity to be able to read and write handwritten materials, including being able to view a computer screen. An employee must have dexterity in the hands for typing and operation of computers and standard office equipment. An employee must have the ability to work safely in and around traffic and active construction sites as needed. An employee must be able to talk and listen in order to communicate and respond to the public and other employees.
