Job summary

Wieland Small Tube Products in Granite City, IL is seeking a Local Driver with a valid Class A CDL to perform local deliveries within a 150‑mile radius, home nightly. You will inspect vehicles, document safety checks, and comply with DOT rules and company policies, ensuring accurate logs and on‑time deliveries.

This on‑site role offers an hourly pay range of $25–$30 with weekly payroll, a 6:00 am to 2:30 pm shift, and a focus on safety, reliability, and clear communication to support Wieland’s

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 22 years old with a valid Class A CDL.
  • Minimum 5 years of driving experience and a clean DOT record.
  • Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Knowledge of DOT rules, safety policies, and company procedures.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to read BOLs and freight documents.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical issues and safety with proper documentation.
  • Comply with DOT rules and company policies.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions.
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions.
  • Report defects, accidents or violations.
  • Ensure trailers are locked out and chocked before loading/unloading.
  • Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations.
  • Maintain contact with supervisor, dispatcher, and scale house operator to receive instructions.
  • Work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner to meet requirements.

Local Driver

The Local Driver will be responsible for transporting raw materials and manufactured products across the United States and the globe, and we’re looking for an experienced Class A CDL driver to make local deliveries! Most delivery locations are within 150 miles of our campus, so you are going to be home every night. Our business is growing, and we need to expand! We pay very well and look out for our drivers with that human touch! This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $25/hr - $30/hr with a $0.55 - $0.60 CPM

Work Schedule: 6 am - 2:30 pm

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Local Driver Responsibilities

Local Driver Qualifications
  • Must be at least 22 years old, have a minimum of 5 years of experience, and possess a valid Class A CDL license.
  • Clean driving record. Not cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous three years.
  • Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment.
  • Good communication skills; conveys information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adjusts communication to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as BOLs, Freight logs, and intermodal trans documents, safety rules, operating, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use a digital camera and upload pictures according to company standards.
  • Adapts to change quickly and easily and performs effectively during times of change; demonstrates the ability to multitask and manages competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
  • Be a safety champion by promoting a safe and productive workplace through your own actions, including the proper use of PPE, safe operation of powered equipment, and safe lifting techniques as determined by the role.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs and ability to open containers.
  • Our drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts and at times, need to climb onto the truck containers to smooth loads or secure tarps for transport. In addition, the position involves lifting (up to 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Manually open and close trailer doors (approx. 25-50 lbs.). Secure doors with chain and binder (approx. 25-50 lbs.).
  • Manually dolly up and down trailer dolly legs (approx. 50-75 lbs.).
  • Climb up fixed trailer ladder on the front of the trailer nose and use crane bar handle to physically roll or unroll manual trailer tarps (approx. 75-100 lbs.).
  • Manually swing multiple roof bow headers to one side of the trailer by removing a pin from a pin-and-hinge assembly and reinstalling (approx. 75-100 lbs.).
  • Perform manual brake adjustments on slack adjusters requiring squatting or kneeling under the trailer (approx. 25-50 lbs.).
  • Perform manual sliding of trailer tandems by pulling trailer slider bar to release the tandem pins (approx. 75-100 lbs.).
