Job summary

ESL Federal Credit Union in Rochester, NY, is seeking a Loan Portfolio Risk Analyst to analyze portfolio performance and credit risk trends. You will help lenders understand changes in credit quality and underwriting outcomes while contributing to governance reporting and risk management practices.

The role requires a background in finance/analytics with at least two years in related fields, strong data interpretation skills, and proficiency with SQL, Python, and data visualization tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, or 4 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in credit risk, financial analysis, portfolio analytics, risk management, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data and interpreting results
  • Demonstrated ability to identify trends and evaluate risk indicators
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Analyze portfolio performance to identify meaningful trends and emerging risk indicators
  • Monitor key measures of credit quality and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Evaluate changes in portfolio performance and recommend areas for further review
  • Support ongoing monitoring activities that inform lending decisions
  • Compare performance to benchmarks to inform recommendations
  • Develop reporting and analysis that support credit risk management activities
  • Research drivers of portfolio performance and summarize findings for stakeholders
  • Support preparation of reports for management and governance groups
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting effectiveness and efficiency
  • Evaluate underwriting outcomes across lending products
  • Support analysis related to underwriting, policy, or strategy changes
  • Assist with risk assessments that support lending initiatives
  • Provide analytical insights to support business decision-making
  • Collaborate with business partners and cross-functional teams

This position is hybrid and remote eligible for up to 40% of the time. The office location for this position is at ESL Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY. Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible to meet current and future business needs.

Pay and Incentive Plan:

Starting Pay: $43.75 per hour

Purpose:

The Loan Portfolio Risk Analyst supports ESL's lending strategy through analysis of portfolio performance and credit risk trends. This role helps the organization understand changes in credit quality and underwriting outcomes. The analyst provides insights that support lending decisions and portfolio management activities. Through analytical expertise and continuous learning, this position helps strengthen ESL's approach to credit risk management.

Accountabilities:
  • Analyze portfolio performance to identify meaningful trends and emerging risk indicators
  • Monitor key measures of credit quality and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Evaluate changes in portfolio performance and recommend areas for
    further review
  • Support ongoing monitoring activities that inform lending decisions

    future recommendations
  • Develop reporting and analysis that supports credit risk management
    activities
  • Research drivers of portfolio performance and summarize findings for

  • Evaluate underwriting outcomes and portfolio performance across lending products
  • Support analysis related to proposed underwriting, policy, or strategy
    changes
  • Assist with risk assessments that support lending initiatives

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data
    Science, Business Analytics, or a related field, or 4 years of directly related experience in credit risk, financial analysis, portfolio analytics, risk management, or a related field
  • In addition, a minimum of 2 years of experience in credit risk, financial analysis, portfolio analytics, risk management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data and interpreting results
  • Demonstrated ability to identify trends and evaluate risk indicators
  • Critical thinking, strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with banking products, services, and business processes
  • Exposure to lending products and underwriting concepts
  • Proficiency using SQL, Python, R or similar analytical tools
  • Experience using data visualization tools
  • Familiarity with portfolio performance analysis
