This position is a Loading & Shipping Operator responsible for all product loading operations at a soybean processing facility. The role includes loading trucks, barges, and railcars per daily instructions, sampling product, storing samples, completing required documentation, and maintaining housekeeping in the assigned area. Additionally, the operator will assist in plant operations, including barge switching of meal or oil barges as directed by management.
Responsibilities
- Load trucks, barges, and railcars according to daily loading schedules.
- Sample product and store samples as required.
- Complete all required documentation for loaded products.
- Perform housekeeping in the assigned area.
- Assist in plant operations and barge switching of meal or oil barges when applicable.
- Participate in company safety, food safety, and quality programs; attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Comply with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Handle rail switching as needed.
- Ensure samples for each container, truck, railcar, or vessel are documented and stored properly.
- Seal oil trucks and document; provide seal packets for meal cars; provide seals for oil cars and barges.
- Recycle samples after expiration.
- Conduct daily inventory.
- Perform deckhand duties, as needed.
- Execute other duties as assigned, including maintenance assistance during urgent situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- No prior experience required.
- Weigh Master Certificate.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Basic mechanical skills and aptitude.
- Ability to work safely while maintaining security.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements.
- Ability to apply common sense and logical thought to interpret oral and written communications.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to use tools appropriate for the assigned task.
Physical Demands & Requirements
- Lifting up to 20 lbs. daily, 60 lbs. occasionally; assistance required for >60 lbs.
- Climbing ladders or stairs repeatedly, reaching heights up to 120 feet.
- Using a 300‑pound rated ladder on the regular basis.
- Meeting required physical fitness and fit testing, when applicable.
- Using and maintaining applicable PPE.
- Working at elevated heights (100+ feet).
- Constantly grasping and reaching.
- Communicating verbally, in person, and over two‑way radio.
- Communicating written instructions.
- Working outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Working the entire normally scheduled shift, including rotating shifts and overtime when necessary.
- Working in an environment with high dust levels.
- Working extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.
- Using peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks.
Environmental Conditions
- Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment.
- Up to 5% travel, including off‑site training.
Pay & Benefits
Pay range: $20.75 – $26.69 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Competitive pay starting at $20–$25 per hour and strong benefits are offered.
