Job summary

S.T. Wooten Corporation seeks a capable laborer to operate a loader and Bobcat, moving materials around our New Bern asphalt plant yard. The role involves using power tools, assisting with site preparation, and maintaining safety and efficiency across daily operations.

Ideal candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience, knowledge of front end loaders, and a solid work ethic. The job requires the ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends, in varying weather

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum 1 year of related experience is required.
• Experience operating front end loader and Bobcat is preferred.
• Understanding of asphalt plant operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate loader and Bobcat to move materials on the plant yard and use power tools as needed.
• Position, join, align, and seal structural components.
• Shovel materials and assist with cleaning and preparing sites.
• Signal equipment operators to coordinate movements of machinery and materials.
• Spray surfaces with water, sand, steam, or paint for cleaning or coating.
• Tend all machines used in day-to-day operations and perform routine maintenance.
• Manage pumps, compressors, and generators to power tools and equipment.
• Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery and tools as required.
• Apply caulking compounds manually or with caulking guns.
• Maintain a clean work site and eliminate hazards.
• Control traffic around the work area and coordinate safety protocols.
• Set up and take down temporary structures like scaffolding and braces.
• Load and unload building materials, machinery, and tools.
• Prepare mixtures for coating or cleaning surfaces.
• Follow safety regulations and work long, flexible hours including nights and weekends.
• Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

JOB LOCATION: New Bern, NC

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Perform general tasks involving physical labor as well as operating the loader and Bobcat at plants. May operate hand and power tools of all types: Air hammers, small mechanical hoists, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces for support, cleaning up rubble and debris and keeping plant yard clean at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Operate loader and Bobcat as needed for moving materials on plant yard. May also be required to use jackhammers, drills and other power tools.
2. Position, join, align, and seal structural components.
3. Shovel materials.
4. Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
5. Spray materials such as water, sand, steam, or paint through hoses to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
6. Tend all machines used in the day to day operations.
7. Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials.
8. Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools.
9. Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns.
10. Clean and prepare sites to eliminate possible hazards.
11. Control traffic passing near, in, and around work area.
12. Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, ramps, and other temporary structures.
13. Load, unload building materials, machinery, and tools.
14. Mix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces.
15. Learn and follow safety regulations.
16. Work long, flexible hours as demanded by our customers including nights, weekends, and work outside for extended periods during all seasons of the year.
17. Perform additional duties as required or directed by their immediate supervisor or other manager.
18. Must have regular and predictable attendance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

• Must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Work Experience:

• Good work ethic
• Experience operating front end loader and Bobcat
• Understanding of asphalt plant operations a plus
• Must have a minimum of 1 year experience to even be considered

Heavy Physical Demands:

Heavy physical effort required including pulling and lifting or moving heavy weight material with frequent lifting or moving materials or equipment (over 80 pounds). If a position specific Physical Demands sheet is attached, it will describe in more detail the physical demands that are required.

Physical Activity:

Position requires the ability to continuously work around any or all of the following: noise, dust, heat, cold, oil and heavy equipment. Personal protective equipment is normally required of the position.
