Job summary

Hughes Brothers Construction, Inc. is seeking a Loader/Backhoe Operator to safely operate heavy equipment for site infrastructure and roadway projects in Central Florida. You will perform daily maintenance, follow supervision, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The role requires 2+ years of experience, the ability to lift 40 pounds, and a willingness to travel or work overtime. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, with bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• 2+ years’ experience in a similar position.
• Knowledge of road construction materials, processes and industry requirements.
• Knowledge of Loader and other heavy equipment with understanding of controls/electronics.
• Able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Overtime or travel may be required.
• English and Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment and keep it clean.
• Control Loader to lower/tilt bucket, drive, and dump material as needed.
• Remain aware of ground disturbance issues.
• Operate Loader on roads with attention to surroundings.
• Follow supervisor directions for assigned work area.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, dust, and asphalt exposure.

Loader/Backhoe Operator

Hughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction t hroughout Central Florida. Loader/Backhoe Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader which is equipped with a front-mounted, hydraulically powered bucked or scoop and is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.

Responsibilities:

• Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment as well as routine cleaning to ensure smooth operation of the Loader.
• Operate the Loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material, move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material.
• Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
• Operate Loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
• Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
• Perform job tasks in an outdoor setting which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity and exposure to dust and asphalt.

• 2+ years’ experience in similar position
• Knowledge of road construction materials, processes and industry requirements
• Knowledge of Loader and other heavy equipment and understanding of computerized controls and electronics
• Able to work independently or as an active member of ateam
• Out-of-town travel and/or overtime is apossibility
• English and Spanish fluency a plus, but is notrequired
• High school diploma/GEDpreferred
