Job summary
Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Living Collections Assistant to care for live exhibits and manage life support systems. You will assist in feeding, monitoring, and maintaining tanks and habitats, under the guidance of the Director, Living Collections and Exhibitions.
This role emphasizes data collection, teamwork, and education support for school groups and visitors in Rainforest and Aquarium areas. Strong reliability, safety awareness, and a proactive approach are essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology or related field or 1-2 years of related experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information and regulations.
- Knowledge of animal care and life support systems is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense animal diets for all exhibits.
- Maintain exhibits and animals under supervision and established procedures.
- Assist in planning improvement projects for area exhibits.
- Collect and analyze biological data related to life support systems.
- Support Rainforest/Aquarium educational programs.
- Care for live exhibits including wet lab and Life Lab.
- Prepare biological specimens for instructional use.
