Job summary

Qualifications

• Applicants will be placed on the eligible list for ALL levels for which they are qualified.
• Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• Basic Experience: at least ONE (1) YEAR of experience reading, writing and understanding instructions, or graduation from High school substituted for Basic Experience.
• General Experience: at least ONE (1) YEAR of WORK EXPERIENCE in the care and handling of large and small animals.
• Specialized Experience: LEVEL II requires ONE (1) YEAR of experience in livestock inspection, quarantine and testing for disease; enforcement of livestock disease control rules.

Responsibilities

• Positions are engaged in providing animal health services for the State, including disease surveillance and investigations, inspecting animal production operations, and providing quarantine services.
• LEVEL I: trainee with on-the-job instruction and participation in routine inspectional and enforcement activities related to livestock inspection.
• LEVEL II: conducts inspections of animals imported into the State at ports of entry for compliance with state laws and regulations.
