Job summary

Smithfield is seeking a Herdsperson to assist Herd Technicians in routine animal care and farm tasks. You will help manage animal welfare, sanitation, and movement, operating farm equipment as directed, and supporting health and breeding programs.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to SOPs, and flexibility to adapt to leadership direction while ensuring safety and high welfare standards on site.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous livestock handling experience is helpful.
• Must be able to perform hard physical labor.
• Strong commitment to teamwork and safety procedures.
• Willingness to shower daily and maintain personal hygiene while on site.
• Must be able to work a variable average 48-hour work week including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks.
• Assist in movement of animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
• Sanitize and wash multiple areas with high pressure equipment.
• Handle piglets and basic veterinary procedures as directed.
• Maintain production records and follow SOPs and training guides.
• Comply with environmental, safety, and biosecurity requirements.
