Job summary

The Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA seeks a skilled Procurement Recovery Surgeon to join its Liver Transplant Surgery program. The position offers the chance to contribute to a high-volume center focused on patient care, innovation, research, and surgical education.

Responsibilities include recovering abdominal organs from deceased donors, donor assessment, back-table preparation, and mentoring residents and fellows.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree or Foreign equivalent.
• 3-5 years in liver or abdominal surgery as a primary or assistant surgeon.
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote teamwork in others.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel in the transplant program, OPO, other procurement teams and host hospitals.
• Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform abdominal organ recovery from deceased donors, including liver, pancreas, and small bowel grafts.
• Participate in donor organ assessment and determination of organ quality for transplantation.
• Perform back-table preparation and reconstruction of liver, pancreas, and small bowel allografts.
• Support organ procurement for research initiatives and preservation of marginal donor organs.
• Teach and mentor surgical residents and fellows in organ procurement and back-table preparation techniques.
