Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Liver Transplant Coordinator Nurse to lead and coordinate care for patients undergoing liver transplantation, from evaluation through post-operative care. This role requires clinical expertise, compassionate communication, and strong teamwork with surgeons, hepatologists, and social workers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years nursing experience or other direct patient care experience working with complex patients.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written format.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisplinary team, using good judgment and assessment skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate competent leadership and teaching ability required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
  • Willingness to travel required.

  • Provide and promote the delivery of 24/7 transitional quality patient care for a designated group of patients through role modeling, displaying excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice, and acting as educator for the transplant patient population.
  • Provide a continuum of care and education for pre and post-transplant patients and their families (living donor or recipient) and serve as a patient advocate in the healthcare system and community.
  • Coordinate transplant-related procedures and monitor patient status throughout evaluation, listing, selection, and post-operative phases.
  • Educate patients and families about transplant processes, expectations, and care plans.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, hepatologists, and social workers to ensure comprehensive, personalized care.
  • Demonstrate compassionate communication and support for patients and families during a highly emotional journey.
