Shape the Future of Play: Curator of Public Play and Game Shows

At The Strong, we believe play has the power to inspire, educate, and connect people of all ages. Behind our world-renowned exhibits and the world's most comprehensive collection of toys, games, and play history is a passionate, collaborative team—and an exceptional opportunity for an energetic, strategic museum professional.

We are seeking a Curator of Public Play and Game Shows to manage, research, and expand our collections, while serving as a key driver for our dynamic curatorial program and the National Archives of Game Show History.

Why This Role?

You won't just look after history—you’ll help curate cultural touchstones. You will step into a collaborative environment as part of a team that oversees more than half a million historical objects, while you work to collect and preserve historical materials related to the histories of game shows, amusement parks, playgrounds, and other forms of public play. Your focus will be on acquiring and cataloging new objects, collaborating with the Exhibits and Conservation teams to design high-impact displays, cultivating donor relationships, and serving as a vocal spokesperson and advocate for the museum's educational mission.

What You Bring:

  • Curatorial Expertise: A graduate degree in History, Museum Studies, or a related field, coupled with a knowledge of playthings, public play, or game show history.
  • Collection & Relationship Building: Proven experience in artifact cataloging, collection management, and an entrepreneurial drive for growing collections and cultivating donors.
  • Collaborative & Communicative Mindset: Exceptional interpersonal tact, a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and a passion for sharing history through public speaking, media appearances, and compelling exhibits.

If you are a dynamic, strategy-minded professional eager to bring the history of public play and game shows to life, we’d love to connect!
