Job summary

Sedgwick is seeking a seasoned litigation professional to address high-end cases involving serious injuries and complex coverage issues. You will develop strategies to bring cases to satisfactory resolution, manage legal investigations, and coordinate with local counsel and clients.

The ideal candidate brings a JD or equivalent, a strong background in litigation and claims management, and a commitment to empathetic, collaborative problem-solving within a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Education and licensing: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. JD preferred.
• Ten (10) years of litigation experience with at least 5 years of claims management experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Review reports and forms; respond to inquiries; seek legal opinions and early resolution; communicate outcomes.
• Handle high-end cases with serious injuries and complex coverage scenarios.
• Respond to decisions, orders or demands; develop action plans; assess need for examinations; obtain client authorization.
• Identify settlement or redemption opportunities; coordinate with client designees and local counsel.
• Attend mediations, trials, arbitrations or hearings as needed; collaborate with partners to enable early return-to-work.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To address and handle high end cases with serious injuries, complex coverage scenarios and legal inquiries or disputes; to develop a strategy to bring a case to satisfactory resolution.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES MAY INCLUDE

• Reviews/acts on reports/forms; responds to inquiries; seeks legal opinion and early resolution; and communicates resolution to appropriate parties.
• Handles high end cases with serious injuries and/or complex coverage scenarios.
• Responds to decisions, agreement, and/or court order; creates action plan; determines need for examination; gains client authorization.
• Identifies cases for settlements/redemptions.
• Gathers/documents additional information and coordinates with client designees.
• Requests legal/private investigation; assigns to and coordinates with local counsel; monitors local counsel performance.
• Responds to plaintiff's counsel, union, employee, or client requests.
• Identifies issues and formulates defense strategy.
• Establishes/adjusts accrued liability and approves administrative expenses.
• Identifies subrogation opportunities and manages process.
• Attends and participates in mediations, trials, arbitrations or hearings as needed.
• Works with partners to affect early return-to-work.
• Performs other duties as assigned, Supports the organization's quality program(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Professional certification as applicable to line of business preferred. Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred Experience: Ten (10) years of experience handling litigation including 5 years of claims management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

• Mental: Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment, troubleshooting, problem solving, analysis, and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines.

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is ($70k-90k).
