Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group in Bedford, NH seeks a Litigation Adjuster to join our Claims Legal Team. You will manage a portfolio of complex, high-exposure litigated claims and oversee defense counsel to achieve favorable outcomes.

The role emphasizes negotiation, coverage evaluation, and timely settlements, with a hybrid work schedule and comprehensive benefits. A 4-year degree and at least 3 years handling commercial lines claims are required; JD candidates with defense experience are encouraged

Qualifications

• 4‑year degree or equivalent work-related experience.
• Minimum of 3 years handling commercial lines claims, preferably with New York Labor Law, construction defect, or third‑party property damage claims.
• JD candidates with insurance defense experience are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to oversee defense counsel, select and retain experts, and develop resolution strategies.
• Professional designations or pursuit of industry‑specific designations is a plus.
• Exceptional organization, negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with claims staff, policyholders, attorneys, agents, and service providers to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Provide high-level customer service while managing a portfolio of complex, high-exposure litigated claims.
• Evaluate coverage by interpreting and applying policy language to claim facts, and prepare coverage position letters.
• Conduct and direct timely investigation, evaluation, and equitable settlement of all assigned claims.
• Ensure timely and accurate reserves in line with established reserving philosophy.
• Negotiate fair settlements directly with attorneys.
• Identify risk transfer opportunities through trade contracts or applicable law.

Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty insurer in the Northeast and is hiring a Litigation Adjuster to join our Claims Legal Team in the Bedford, New Hampshire regional office.

Pay

Estimated salary: $85,000 – $103,000, based on leveling and geography, with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
