The City and County of Honolulu’s Honolulu Liquor Commission is seeking Liquor Control Investigator III to supervise and participate in inspections, investigations and enforcement of liquor laws, rules and regulations in Honolulu.
The role includes reviewing license applications, conducting interviews, inspections, and preparing investigative reports for Commission meetings and public hearings. It requires strong investigative skills and the ability to supervise others in enforcement duties.
The Honolulu Liquor Commission (LIQ) has five (5) vacancies for Liquor Control Investigator III in Honolulu.
The position supervises and participates in inspections and investigations involving the enforcement of liquor laws, rules, and regulations. The position also conducts investigations related to the issuance, transfer, and renewal of liquor licenses and permits.
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Four (4) years of inspectional or investigative work experience relating to the enforcement of laws, ordinances and/or rules and regulations, two (2) of which shall have been in a liquor law enforcement program.
Possession of the required amount of experience will NOT in and of itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. The overall experience must be of sufficient scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position.
An associate's degree or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice (or closely-related major field) will substitute for two (2) years of inspectional or investigative work experience relating to the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and/or rules and regulations. There is no substitution for work experience in a liquor law enforcement program.

Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment. Licensing Section vacancy: Possession of an FBI CJIS Level 2 Security Awareness Certification or FBI CJIS equivalent certificate, prior to completion of probation.

Due to the nature of the position, selectees are required to be fingerprinted as part of the employment suitability review. Criminal history record information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center will be reviewed.
