POSITION SUMMARY
The Liquid Cooling Technician is an hourly, non-exempt individual contributor responsible for assembling, installing, inspecting, and testing mechanical fluid-cooling systems used in data centers and critical infrastructure. Working onsite in a production environment, this position follows engineered specifications and standard work to achieve safe, high-quality, on-time builds. The technician also supports prototype and new product introduction (NPI) builds, shares technical knowledge with coworkers, and identifies opportunities to improve manufacturability, safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble, fit, and install stainless steel and copper piping, compression and mechanical fittings, valves, manifolds, hoses, quick disconnects, flow meters, pumps, heat exchangers, and related components in accordance with approved build instructions.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and specifications; verify component identification, fit, routing, and workmanship.
- Prepare tubing and piping, complete mechanical fit-up and component installation, and perform required in-process and final assembly checks.
- Perform documented leak, pressure, and functional testing using approved equipment, procedures, and safety precautions; identify, report, and assist in resolving nonconformances.
- Complete production travelers, test results, inspection records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Meet production and schedule requirements while maintaining safety, quality, and first-pass yield expectations.
- Support prototype, pilot, and NPI builds; provide practical feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing on assembly sequence, tooling, design for manufacturability, and build risks.
- Assist in validating work instructions, standardized processes, fixtures, and test methods before production release.
- Demonstrate proper assembly and test techniques, share job knowledge, and assist in training and cross-training coworkers without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Participate in 5S, Lean, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process improvements to reduce defects, rework, waste, and cycle time.
- Use tools, test equipment, and PPE properly; comply with all safety procedures, including applicable pressure-system and lockout/tagout controls; promptly elevate unsafe conditions or quality concerns.
- At least three years of relevant experience in manufacturing, mechanical assembly, piping, plumbing, HVAC, industrial equipment, or a comparable hands-on field.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and BOMs and perform accurate mechanical fit-up and installation.
- Working knowledge of piping, valves, fittings, fluid-handling components, and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and applicable test equipment safely and accurately.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, documentation accuracy, teamwork, and ability to work within production schedules.
- Preferred: experience with data center cooling, pressure/leak testing, flow verification, NPI/prototypes, Lean improvement, or peer training.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certificate or associate degree in manufacturing, mechanical technology, industrial maintenance, or related discipline preferred.
