UNC Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina is seeking an experienced Linux/Unix Systems Administrator. The role manages enterprise systems, on‑prem and cloud backups, and supports application deployment across Linux environments.

The position emphasizes continuous improvement, cloud operations, and collaboration with diverse teams. A strong background in C, Perl, shell scripting, and VMware virtualization is desirable for effective system engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field with 2–4 years experience, or a Master’s with 1–2 years.
• Three years of Linux system management experience in mixed environments recommended.
• Development experience in Linux/UNIX environments using C, Perl, and shell scripting; containerized services knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Administer enterprise Linux/Unix systems, on‑prem and cloud backups, and related services.
• Manage DNS/DHCP, user administration, and patch management; support applications on Linux/Unix.
• Provide cloud operations support with Azure or AWS and assist in containerized service deployment.
