Job summary

Bcore is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to support the NGA mission in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO. You will design, implement, and manage enterprise Linux infrastructure in on-premises and virtualized environments, focusing on reliability, security, and automation.

You will work with Nutanix AHV, Prism Central/Element, Ansible, and Red Hat tools, collaborating across teams to develop observability dashboards and modernize platforms while maintaining TS clearance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field or equivalent combination of education, training or experience
  • 5+ years of Linux systems engineering in enterprise environments, including Nutanix virtualization
  • Strong expertise in Ansible-based configuration management and automation
  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
  • Experience managing Red Hat-based environments (RHEL, Satellite, Capsule)
  • Hands-on Nutanix HCI experience: AHV, Prism Central/Element, VM lifecycle, storage, networking
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting Linux VMs in Nutanix environments
  • Understanding of virtualization, storage, networking concepts
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and performance issues
  • Experience implementing security best practices in Linux environments
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
  • Strong problem-solving and independent work ability
  • Experience with Nutanix advanced capabilities and APIs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Linux-based infrastructure in on-premises and virtualized environments
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Nutanix HCI for Linux workloads
  • Collaborate with infra teams to provision, configure, and manage VMs, storage, networking, and cluster resources in Nutanix
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible and scripting
  • Standardize configuration, patching, and deployment via Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Administer Red Hat ecosystem tools, including Satellite and Capsule
  • Integrate authentication/authorization mechanisms (OAuth, SSO)
  • Support dashboards and observability with Grafana and Zabbix
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Linux systems and Nutanix infra
  • Troubleshoot complex infra, virtualization, storage, networking, and integrations
  • Collaborate across teams to improve reliability, scalability, security
  • Document system architecture, processes, and standards
  • Contribute to automation maturity and platform modernization

Responsibilities What you get to do every day: You will support the Geospatial Services & Solutions business area to provide high-quality, cost-effective solutions to the customer. As part of the GSS Team, the Linux Systems Engineer expertise is needed to support a sophisticated enterprise environment. The Linux Systems Engineer is an active participant in SAFe and Scrum development teams and meetings. The systems engineer will be responsible for supporting the customer's enterprise environment. Specific Duties and Responsibilities * Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Linux-based infrastructure in both on-premises and virtualized environments

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), including AHV, Prism Central, and Prism Element, to support enterprise Linux workloads
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to provision, configure, and manage virtual machines, storage, networking, and cluster resources within Nutanix environments
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible and scripting languages (e.g. Bash & Python)
  • Standardize system configuration, patching, and deployment processes through Infrastructure-as-Code practices
  • Administer and support Red Hat ecosystem tools, including Satellite and Capsule
  • Integrate and manage authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g. OAuth, SSO, identity providers)
  • Support the development of dashboards and observability solutions using tools such as Grafana and Zabbix
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Linux systems and Nutanix infrastructure for performance, availability, and capacity
  • Troubleshoot complex system, virtualization, storage, networking, and integration issues across distributed environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency
  • Document system architecture, processes, automation, and infrastructure standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives including automation maturity, platform modernization, and operational best practices Qualifications Clearance Required: Active TS clearance (with SCI Eligibility) and eligibility to obtain CI Poly Education/Experience: * Requires Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
  • 5+ years of experience administering and engineering Linux systems in enterprise environments, including experience supporting enterprise virtualization platforms such as Nutanix Required Skills: * Solid understanding of Linux system administration fundamentals (networking, storage, security, and OS internals)
  • Strong expertise in configuration management and automation using Ansible
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation and tooling
  • Experience managing Red Hat-based environments (RHEL, Satellite, Capsule, or similar tools)
  • Hands-on experience administering Nutanix HCI environments, including AHV, Prism Central, Prism Element, virtual machine lifecycle management, storage, networking and cluster operations
  • Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Linux virtual machines in Nutanix environments
  • Understanding of virtualization, hypervisor technologies, storage and networking concepts
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure, virtualization, and performance issues
  • Experience implementing security best practice in Linux environments
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
What is ideal? * Experience with Nutanix advanced capabilities such as Files, Objects, Flow, Calm, or Disaster Recovery.
  • Experience with Nutanix automation using APIs, PowerShell, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Experience with load balancing devices such as HAProxy or F5
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts (e.g. OAuth, LDAP, SSO)
  • Experience with observability and dashboarding tools such as Grafana and Zabbix
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integration with infrastructure automation
  • Experience with VMWare-to-Nutanix migration or hybrid virtualization environments
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Intelligence Community Experience preferred

  • The expected salary range within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $113,000-$139,000. Final compensation is unique to each individual and will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, geographic location, and contractual requirements. This is not a guarantee.
