Job summary

Virtual Workgroup Technologies Corporation is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to support mission‑critical Linux infrastructure in the DC metro area. The role requires onsite presence one day per week with the other days remote, and candidates must be US citizens able to obtain a clearance.

Responsibilities include deploying and securing Linux servers, managing patches, and implementing automation and IaC. Experience with VMWare, cloud platforms, and federal security standards is required.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years of Linux engineering experience in enterprise or federal environments.
• Advanced experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9).
• Strong proficiency with Bash scripting and at least one modern scripting or programming language (Python preferred).
• Hands-on experience with Ansible and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Knowledge of virtualization (VMware), containers, and cloud computing.
• Experience supporting security compliance under federal frameworks (FISMA, NIST 800-53, STIGs).

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred) across on-premise and cloud environments.
• Implement secure baseline configurations aligned with DOJ, NIST, and federal cybersecurity standards.
• Manage OS patching, kernel dependences, and system performance tuning.
• Support enterprise application hosting, web services, databases, and middleware running on Linux platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, or similar tools.
• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
• Assist with migration, deployment, and administration of Linux workloads in cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).

Responsibilities

The Senior Linux Engineer will provide expert-level engineering, administration, modernization, and operational support for Linux-based infrastructure, ensuring secure, stable, and compliant systems that support mission-critical applications used nationwide. Candidate will strengthen Linux server environments through proactive engineering, hardening, lifecycle management, and modernization. Improve system reliability, security, monitoring, configuration management, and automation. Support cloud adoption, cybersecurity posture, and enterprise architecture objectives. Provide Tier 3 engineering support, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and optimization.
