Job summary

Entergy Louisiana, LLC is hiring for Lineworker I through Sr levels in Bastrop, LA. The role covers building and maintaining overhead and underground lines, leading teams, and performing energized work up to 34,500 volts with safety at the forefront. A strong safety mindset is essential.

Minimum education is a high school diploma with varying experience per level. A valid driver's license and Class A CDL (or ability to obtain) are required or preferred.

Qualifications

  • Lineworker I requires 6 months to 1 year of field distribution experience; II 1.5–2 years; III 2.5–3 years; Sr 3.5–4 years.
  • Must have valid driver's license and a Class-A CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and build overhead and underground electrical facilities.
  • Lead other lineworkers; perform material maintenance and jobsite setup.
  • Perform aerial and underground construction tasks; operate aerial baskets and digger derrick trucks.
  • Work energized lines up to 34,500 volts and apply basic transformer and circuitry knowledge.
  • Uphold Live Safe mindset and mitigate hazards on all tasks.

This position may be filled as a Lineworker (Mechanic) I, II, III, or Sr based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

The ability to perform all aspects of the Lineworker job function including but not limited to the day-to-day aspects of maintaining and building overhead and underground electrical facilities. Responsible various levels of learning, performing, and/or leading other lineworkers, material maintenance as well as, up to and including, aerial and underground work including utility distribution construction tasks. Working with a Live Safe mindset in all tasks; ensuring to mitigate hazards where identified.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Lineworker I
  • Proper use and care of all rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to perform confined space and bucket rescue tasks and properly set up and operate aerial baskets and digger derrick trucks.
  • Ability to lift, rig and tie knots to set up, jobsite and material for work in manholes and vaults, identifying materials and understanding distribution construction specifications.
  • Ability to properly cover up secondary lines and perform energized work on secondary voltage lines.
  • Ability to use meters to perform tests and install 3 and 4 wire secondary lines.
  • Ability to identify substation and underground equipment.
Lineworker II
  • Ability to perform overhead tasks, including energized primary cover up to 34,500 volts.
  • Ability to understand transformer theories including bank installations, tap settings, and identifying and constructing multiple secondary voltage applications.
  • Ability to learn and perform simple primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts) tasks and applications.
  • Ability to lift, rig and tie knots to set up, construct, frame poles, and change out cross-arms, identifying materials and understanding distribution construction specifications.
Lineworker III
  • Ability to perform all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker II
  • Ability to build and maintain underground residential distribution circuits, including but not limited to, prepare/operate pad mount switchgear, install and troubleshoot URD circuits and switching/tagging URD primary cable.
  • Ability to learn three phase primary tasks to include safe operation and removal/installation of single and three phase reclosers, changing out insulators, and installing and replacing Gang Operated Airbrake Switches (GOABs).
Lineworker Sr
  • Ability to perform all tasks include in Helper through Lineworker III.
  • Demonstrate strong Leadership capabilities including indirect crew leadership.
  • Ability to learn and perform advanced primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts) tasks and applications.
  • Ability to perform advanced Lineworker tasks on Regulators, capacitors banks, Alternate Switching Scheme, and Intelliruptor devices.
All Levels Must Be Able To Perform The Following
  • Maintaining a well-organized jobsite to ensure the surroundings are safe.
  • Learning, completing, and performing (Lineworker I-Sr) (as necessary) all mandated training, such as but not limited to, First Aid, CPR, etc.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Required Of The Position
  • Lineworker Mech, I - 6 months to 1 year of field distribution experience is required
  • Lineworker Mech, II - 1.5 years to 2 year of field distribution experience is required
  • Lineworker Mech, III - 2.5 years to 3 years of field distribution experience is required
  • Lineworker Mech, Sr. - 3.5 years to 4 years of field distribution experience is required

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:
  • Ability to use physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
  • Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to assume a lead role and direct the work of other linemen.
  • Ability to climb and work off of poles of various heights.
  • Additionally, must be able to walk on all types of terrain.
Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc. Required For The Position
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must have, and maintain, a Class-A CDL or ability to obtain one (within 6 months of employment)..
  • Preferred : valid Class A CDL.
