Job summary

Lebanon Utilities in Indiana is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a groundman/operator/apprentice for electrical distribution and transmission work in all weather conditions and all hours. You will assist with overhead and underground lines, install meters, and support training of other apprentices.

The role requires a valid Indiana driver’s license and CDL, strong safety focus, and the ability to follow directions under pressure.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent required.
• A minimum of 6 months as groundman/operator.
• Shows familiarity with principles and practices of electric power line construction, maintenance, and substations required.
• Strong verbal communication skills necessary in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization.
• Ability to follow directions in emergency or highly stressful situations.
• A valid Indiana driver’s license and CDL required.

Responsibilities

• Constructs, maintains and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems.
• Works in below grade structures to pull, splice, and connect underground primary and secondary cables and other devices and equipment.
• Installs single phase and three phase electric meters.
• Installs, maintains, constructs, and replaces de-energized transmission and energized distribution lines and equipment under all weather conditions and at all hours.
• Assists in the training of all other apprentices.
• Inspects, maintains, and repair electrical services and street lights.
• Observes all safety rules and practices, including working on circuits with hot sticks and/or with rubber protective equipment in aerial lifts or on poles in required safety apparel.
• Operates all equipment as required including Digger/Derrick, Aerial Lift truck, forklift, backhoe/tractor, trencher, hydraulic presses, cutters, and tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Under supervision, constructs, maintains and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems including such things as setting towers/poles, maintaining and repairing overhead distribution or transmission lines, stringing new wire or maintaining old wire, installing and maintaining anchors, installing and maintaining insulators, installing and maintaining transformers, installing and maintaining underground distribution systems, trimming trees and brush, installing and maintaining other equipment including but not limited to; street lights, capacitor banks, transformers, cutouts, cross arms, switches, and insulators.
• Works in below grade structures to pull, splice, and connect underground primary and secondary cables and other devices and equipment.
• Installs single phase and three phase electric meters.
• Installs, maintains, constructs, and replaces de-energized transmission and energized (de-energized for 1 st and 2 nd year apprentice) distribution lines and equipment under all weather conditions and at all hours of day or night.
• Assists in the training of all other apprentices.
• Inspects, maintains, and repair electrical services and street lights.
• Observes all safety rules and practices, including working on circuits with hot sticks and/or with rubber protective equipment in aerial lifts or on poles in required safety apparel.
• Operates all equipment as required including Digger/Derrick, Aerial Lift truck, forklift, backhoe/tractor, trencher, hydraulic presses, cutters, and tools.
