AEP in Tulsa, OK is seeking an experienced lineman to install, repair and maintain electrical transmission and distribution lines both overhead and underground. You will work near energized conductors with emphasis on safety and proper grounding practices.

The role requires climbing, bucket work, and ability to operate in varied environments with frequent overtime and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 4+ years line work experience for external candidates and journeyman pre-assessment.
  • CDL A license required.
  • Live within 35 miles of work location.
  • Ability to climb and work at heights.
  • Willingness to overtime, weekends and travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Climbs poles or rides in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles.
  • Installs and repairs underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.
  • Installs pole hardware and such auxiliary equipment as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.
  • Covers energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high‑voltage lines without interrupting service.
  • Uses insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
  • May service streetlight systems.
  • May patrol power lines.
  • Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.

Job Description

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification written test with a score of 80% or higher and successful completion of hands-on comprehensive demonstrations. External candidates must have a minimum of 4 years line work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
  • Required License(s)/Certification(s): Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A state driver's license.
  • Must live within 35 mile radius/40 roadway miles.
  • Must have the ability to climb and work at heights.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.
  • Must pass the AEP Pre-assessment Evaluation.
  • Must acquire with such time determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classifications.
  • Work Hours / Travel Requirements: 40 hours per week with overtime and travel as required. Must be available for overtime callout including weekends and holidays. This role requires regular overtime and on-call response. Travel, including out of town travel, may also be required.

Compensation Range: $56.36 - $56.36

Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work

Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
