Position Summary
The Line Technician’s primary responsibility is to troubleshoot and maintain the RF and fiber portion of the system from each node to termination, including node equipment, fiber optic cable, forward and return paths, modem, ingress, leakage, DCT, HD-related equipment, and digital services. The technician assists the maintenance technician in removing and adding network-facing technicians, along with demand calls. The Line Technician turns on and tests new or modified system plant and other special assignments as needed. The Line Technician reports directly to the Supervisor, Technical Operations.
There are no direct reports to this position.
Essential Functions
- Perform duties of the Maintenance Technician.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the RF and fiber portions of the system from the node to termination.
- Perform turn‑on and testing of new system additions and modifications.
- Assist the Maintenance Technician by changing network-facing assignments to resolve service call change requests in a timely manner.
- Interface with Power Mode Technician and Hub Technician to resolve system issues.
- Use troubleshooting equipment such as Bit Error Rate detector, Spectrum Analyzer, Time‑Domain Reflectometer, Optical Light Meter, Constellation Meter, Fusion Splicer, Fault Locator, and Optical Time‑Domain Reflectometer.
- Utilize computer skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD LT, POP 2000, System Prints, Wondershare, Xpertrak, PEA, and Apache OpenOffice.
- Assist various projects as needed.
- Provide a courteous and professional image and maintain good customer relations with customers and the general public at all times.
- Use proper radio, phone, text, and email etiquette.
- Create an atmosphere of positive teamwork, cultural change, and employee relations.
- Follow and enforce the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety, at all times.
- Perform any miscellaneous department duties as needed.
- Read cable and fiber blueprints.
- Maintain flexibility to handle additional responsibilities.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent – required.
- 5 years of previous experience in the Telecommunications industry – required.
- Math ability to the 12th grade level – preferred.
- Ability to read and spell English properly – required.
- Physical ability to climb poles and ladders – required.
- Physical ability to lift 100‑pound objects – required.
- Attention to detail – required.
- Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision – required.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skill from the node to the home – required.
- DOT physical and certification – required.
- Ability to troubleshoot, break out, and splice fiber after training – required.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Walk, kneel, stand, regularly lift up to 100 pounds, stoop, crawl, climb telephone poles, stairs, and ladders, sit, drive; hearing, talking, vision, use of hands and fingers to grasp, hold, pick up, rotate, and operate a keyboard.
- Work at elevated heights up to 30–40 feet for extended periods and in confined spaces.
- Work subject to the terms of the current bargaining agreement under Teamsters Local 20.
- Full‑time, hourly, 40 hours per week; shift as assigned.
- Overtime, including holidays, weekends, or nights, as required by the Company.
- Work at 4818 Angola Road, with most work completed off company premises and out in all weather conditions.
- Subject to periodic MVR checks and required written approval upon request.
- Use gaffs to climb telephone poles.
- Present a positive, proactive approach to customer needs.
- Adhere to the Company’s drug‑free workplace programs and policies; subject to pre‑employment and random testing.
- Duty assignments, hours, and positions may change as the needs of the company evolve.
