Job summary

Wayman-College-of-Aeronautics is seeking a Line Lead A&P Mechanic to oversee the work of aircraft mechanics and help ensure airworthiness in accordance with FAA regulations.

Reporting to the Maintenance Director, this role requires FAA A&P certification, 10+ years of general aviation experience, and leadership ability to supervise apprentices and technicians while maintaining safety and compliance on daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and basic computer skills.

Description

Summary

The Line Lead A&P Mechanic will work with the DOM/Lead Inspector/Maintenance Coordinator to help plan and lead the work of aircraft mechanics; responsible for assuring the airworthiness of aircraft and for compliance with applicable federal regulations and guidelines; performing necessary troubleshooting and repairs, AOG maintenance on aircraft; doing related work as required, and inspection and repair of scheduled maintenance when able.

Essential Functions

• Able to use FAA approved data i.e. IPC, MM, OHM, SRM proficiently.
• Required to follow DOM/Lead Inspectors policies for the efficient performance of his/her assigned duties.
• Ensure that safety is the primary factor in maintenance performed and that regardless of scheduling the maintenance performed on an aircraft, powerplant or airframe was performed safely and IAW applicable FAA regulations and Company requirements, prior to the approval for return to service.
• Responsible for ensuring that the maintenance and documenting of maintenance performed is done in accordance with the FAA regulations and company policy/procedures, as applicable for the tasks they perform.
• Responsible for filling parts from the parts cage during parts clerk absence and ensuring parts procedures are followed to maintain accurate inventory count.
• Provide recommendations for additional training or process improvements as they deem necessary, to the Director of Maintenance, as applicable.
• When assigned to “Train” a newly hired A&P or an Apprentice Mechanic, the Lead mechanic is responsible for the direct supervision of the maintenance performed by the new or apprentice mechanic, to ensure it is done satisfactorily.
• Help ensure that facilities, aircraft, ground support equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and organized manner and IAW company standards.
• Ensure that maintenance records entries for work performed are completed properly and IAW FAA requirements and applicable company policies and/or procedures.
• Help to ensure that maintenance records are submitted in a timely manner and IAW company policy, as applicable.

• Deep knowledge and familiarity with all tools and equipment required for normal GA maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostics skills across all GA aircraft systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will supervise A&P Mechanics and Apprentices at Wayman CofA.

Physical Demands

• Assisting in moving aircraft and equipment in & out of the hangar.
• Basic shop upkeep (Sweeping, mopping, cleaning, etc.)
• Lifting/moving items 50lbs
• Must be able to sit, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to climb and work from ladders, work stands, and other heights.
• Must be able to work with one or both hands extended overhead.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Full time, non-exempt Mon-Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm with some nights and weekends as needed.

Required Education and Experience

• Must have an FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificate
• Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience with general aviation
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Ability to read, write and understand the English language
• Must have own tools.
• Familiarity with all FARs and aviation standards.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Inspection Authorization preferred.
• 10+ years GA line maintenance experience
