Job summary

Shoreside Petroleum, Inc. is seeking an experienced Dispatcher to manage dispatching drivers and equipment for the line haul fleet across southcentral and central Alaska.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills to adapt to weather and traffic changes and to maintain high service levels. You will contact customers, coordinate loads, monitor loads, and ensure compliance with DOT hours of service.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School requirement.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years in transportation; fuel industry experience preferred.
  • Licensure: Class A CDL with tanker endorsement; hazmat preferred.
  • Other qualifications: able to work cooperatively; strong communication skills.
  • Attendance: Regular attendance required; willingness to work outside normal hours.
  • English language: must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch drivers and equipment for line-haul operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position handles all aspects of efficiently dispatching drivers and equipment in our line haul fleet. Shoreside Petroleum, Inc. (SPI) operates throughout southcentral and central Alaska. Due to the vast area of operations and ever changing conditions encountered change is constant, making adjustments to unexpected situations are daily occurrences. Excellent organizational skills enabling quick reactions to customer, weather, staff, and equipment changes are core competencies. Excellent communication skills are necessary for working with customers and co-workers. Having a positive attitude at all times is absolutely necessary to effectively carrying out the core job functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

JOB DUTIES

  • Customer Service -
    • Position is responsible for contacting customers to create dispatches.
    • Contact customers daily or as needed to coordinate loads to various locations. If customer is a keep full track and insure run outs don't occur.
    • Ensures all customer needs/requirements are met or exceeded.
    • Set up delivery guidelines and procedures for new customers or delivery locations.
  • Communication-
    • Excellent verbal communication skills required.
    • Communication in-person, on the phone, and via email.
    • communicate with a high level of professionalism with all customers and vendors
  • Equipment-
    • A working knowledge of the various types of equipment SPI operates and the capabilities of the various types of equipment is required.
    • Maintain vehicles to appropriate standards that present a strong Corporate Image.
    • Coordinate maintenance requirements with mechanic, this includes PM and breakdowns.
    • Regularly inspect all vehicles, insure all components are in good repair; cab, pumping compartment, etc.
    • Take out of service any equipment that is potentially unsafe or does not meet regulatory standards, inform Manager and schedule appropriate repair.
  • Drivers-
    • Scheduling drivers weekly and daily; a working knowledge of DOT hours of service laws are required.
    • Work with Management to keep over time to a minimum.
    • Assist Terminal Manager with hiring process for drivers; this includes ride-a-longs for new hires.
    • Maintain a general rapport with drivers and communicate any issues to the Terminal Manager.
    • Work with Management on scheduling of driver safety/operations meetings.
    • Work with Management to continually improve processes regarding driver safety and training.
  • Ensure loads are picked up from the correct terminal.
  • A working knowledge of terminal and delivery locations and procedures.
  • Works to use equipment in an efficient way to maximize utilization of equipment and staff.
  • Works with upper management to keep current on any special load requirements and any new information pertinent to the dispatch position.
  • Works directly with third party transport companies when additional capabilities are required to accomplish a delivery or product move.
  • Be available to jockey trucks and drivers as needed.
  • Having a positive attitude at all times is absolutely necessary to effectively carrying out the core job functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)

1. Education: High School.

2. Experience: Minimum of five years industry experience in transportation, additionally fuel industry experience preferred. Must possess a working knowledge of PC software and other system applications such as MS Office.

3. Licensure/Certification: Class A CDL with tanker endorsement/hazmat preferred. Must be able to obtain TWIC and airport badges.

4. Other Qualifications: Must be able to work cooperatively with others and communicate in writing and verbally. Must be able to present themselves as an example of Shoreside Petroleum's quality, professionalism and corporate Image.

5. Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement of this position. This position requires availability outside of normal working hours.

6. English Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
