Job Overview

Line Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. Produces small to large batch goods using advanced full range of classical cooking techniques. Responsible for the preparation of food for residents in a Senior Living / Healthcare environment. Standardized recipes ensure proper quantities and consistent high quality.

Essential Responsibilities

Food preparation—prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short to mid‐level preparation time, including a la carte service and grill station operation. Prepares food in accordance with federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations. Reads orders or receives verbal instructions from patrons and prepares and cooks food accordingly. Provides high quality service, follows recipes, seasons, cooks, tastes, carves, and serves soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food products. Works under supervision using a variety of kitchen equipment: measures and mixes ingredients; washes, peels, cuts, shreds fruits and vegetables; trims and cuts meat, poultry, or fish. Tastes products, reads menus, estimates requirements, checks production, records to plan requirements, and requisitions supplies. Attends training on allergies and foodborne illness; applies food safety principles. Receives inventory, moves, and lifts supplies; prepares meals for special diets. Takes and records temperatures, corrects discrepancies. Completes prep items according to sheets; plates food with attention to appearance and garnish. May produce batch goods using standard cooking techniques. Performs fast‑food style cooking to serve customers efficiently.

Cleaning, Storage and Sanitation—cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment following all regulatory rules. Assists with set‑ups; breaks down and cleans serving lines and food areas. Records and labels items with appropriate dates; stores properly.

Safety and Risk Management—complies with company safety and risk‑management policies and procedures; participates in safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.

Education and Work Experience

Required: High school diploma. Current Food Handler’s Permit is required. ServSafe training and state sanitation certificate are beneficial.

Desired: 3–4 years of related advanced food service and cooking experience; basic operation of kitchen equipment; intermediate to advanced knife skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

Extensive knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation. Able to communicate effectively in English with residents and staff; read and follow written instructions and recipes unsupervised. Computer basic functions. Cordial, dependable, detail‑oriented, organized, follows policy and procedure with limited supervision. Handles variety of tasks, reacts calmly in emergency situations, shows patience and compassion to senior adults, considers resident comfort, safety, security, and belongings. Sets priorities, manages time efficiently, keeps area neat and orderly, complies with dress code and uniform requirements, understands food safety and sanitation principles, works with all persons, and is available for holidays and flexible hours.

Physical Requirements

May lift or carry up to 50 pounds. Frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling/pushing, extended walking and standing. Must maintain adequate sight and hearing, and be able to stand for up to 8 hours. May be exposed to heat or cold while supporting outside activities.

Compensation

Pay range: $14.01 – $18.44 per hour.
