Qualifications

The Line Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for various meal periods, including Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. Produces small to large batch goods using classical cooking techniques.

Responsible for food preparation for residents in a Senior Living / Healthcare environment, following standardized recipes to ensure high quality and consistency. Maintains sanitation standards in accordance with organizational, federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
Food preparation
  • Prepares and cooks foods requiring short to mid-level preparation time.
  • May operate a grill station and serve customers at an a la carte service.
  • Follows applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service.
  • Reads food orders and prepares food accordingly.
  • Provides high-quality customer service.
  • Follows recipes for preparing, seasoning, cooking, and serving various food products.
  • Uses kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, and trim ingredients and meats.
  • Checks production and keeps records to plan and requisition supplies.
  • Attends food safety training and applies principles of sanitation.
  • Handles inventory, moves, and lifts foodstuffs, and prepares meals for special diets.
  • Records temperatures and corrects discrepancies.
  • Prepares all foods for meals according to production sheets and completes prep items.
  • Plates food with attention to appearance and garnish.
  • Produces batch goods using classical techniques.
Cleaning, Storage, and Sanitation
  • Sanitizes workstations and equipment following regulations.
  • Assists with setup, breakdown, and cleanup of food areas.
  • Labels, stores, and dates food items properly.
Safety and Risk Management
  • Follows safety and risk policies.
  • Participates in safety meetings and hazard assessments.
  • Attends training programs as required.
Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma required.
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit required; Servsafe training beneficial; State sanitation certificate required.
  • 3-4 years of related food service and cooking experience preferred.
  • Experience with kitchen equipment and knife skills preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of kitchen environment and food prep.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to read instructions and follow safety and recipe guidelines.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Cordial, dependable, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and react calmly in emergencies.
  • Patient and compassionate with residents.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
  • Maintains neat work area and adheres to dress code.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
  • Ability to socialize and work well with diverse persons.
  • Flexibility to work holidays and varied hours.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing, and standing/walking.
  • Ability to see and hear adequately for job duties.
  • Extended standing for up to 8 hours.
  • Exposure to heat/cold during outside activities.
