Job summary

Westlake Chemical is seeking an operator to safely and efficiently operate and set up extrusion lines. The role requires working 12-hour Continental shifts and offers shift premiums and incentives.

Responsibilities include starting up and shutting down extrusion lines, handling product and tooling setups, and maintaining safety and quality while maximizing output. Prior manufacturing or extrusion experience is an asset.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work 12 hour Continental shift.
• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
• Experience with extrusion or plastic processes is an asset.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.

Responsibilities

• Start up or shut down an extrusion line safely and efficiently.
• Run one extrusion line at a time.
• Assist with product and tooling set-ups per procedures.
• Adjust the line to maximize output while maintaining safety and quality.
• Complete operator shift reports and pre/post-check lists.
• Relieve packers for breaks without neglecting lines.
• Assist with labeling, gluing, lifting and flipping of boxes when possible.
• Remove unused tooling and drums to designated areas per procedure.
• Participate in inventory counts if required.
• Adapt to new procedures and programs as required.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation & setup of extrusion lines.

MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 12 HOUR ROTATING CONTINENTAL SHIFTS

Rate of Pay: $22.80/hr

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists in starting up or shutting down an extrusion line in a safe and efficient manner.
• Must have the ability to run one extrusion line at a time.
• Assists in all set-ups of products and tooling using proper procedures.
• Assists with adjustments to the line to achieve maximum output while maintaining safety and quality.
• Completes operator shift report, operator stat up pre-check and shut-down check lists.
• Relieves packers for breaks without neglecting the lines.
• Helps packers with labeling, gluing, lifting and flipping of boxes whenever possible without neglecting the lines.
• Removes all drums of notches and nail slugs to the grinder.
• Removes any tooling from the line that is not in use to the designated area as per procedure.
• Participates in mid and year-end inventory count if required.
• Adjusts to new procedures & programs as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be able to work 12 hour Continental shift
• Must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
• Experience with the extrusion or other plastic processes, an asset.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
• Must have strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
