Job summary

HDR is seeking a Lighting Designer I to contribute to architectural lighting projects in a collaborative, employee-owned environment. You will assist with lighting design tasks, documentation, and renderings under the supervision of senior designers.

The role emphasizes strong technical skills in Lighting Design software, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting. Local Philadelphia area candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering with Lighting Design focus.
• Strong software skills: AGI32, eLumtools, Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of a senior designer with architectural project teams on lighting design.
• Prepare lighting documentation, CAD/model production, renderings, and lighting calculations.
• Ensure energy and economic calculations and building certification credits.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Lighting Designer I, we’ll count on you to:

• Work under the guidance of a more-senior designer, and work with architectural project teams on all aspects of the art, science and business of lighting design
• Take responsibility for project lighting documentation, CAD/model production, presentation material and renderings, lighting calculations, energy and economic calculations, and building certification compliance credits.
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Intern Lighting Certified (LC) through the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP)
• Master’s degree in Architectural Lighting or Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design
• 1 year experience or an internship with a lighting design, architectural/engineering, or engineering consulting firm that produced architectural lighting documentation.
• Experience with Healthcare, Science and Technology, Federal, or Entertainment facilities preferred.
• SketchUp, 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Rhino, Grasshopper, DIVA, iRay
• Local candidates preferred

• Strong computer skills with core competencies using AGI32, eLumtools, Revit, AutoCad, and Microsoft Office
• Strong verbal communication skills
