Job summary

The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking an Overhire Light Board Programmer & Operator to join the Production department. Reporting to the Master Electrician, you will manage lighting control systems for drama, operas, concerts, and experimental productions on a non-guaranteed hourly basis, with schedule based on project needs.

Primary duties include programming cues with the Lighting Designer, maintaining lighting equipment, and supporting class concerts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–3 years as light board programmer.
• Expertise in ETC Ion Classic and XE, Paradigm controls, and LED lighting units.
• Experience with DMX and RDM‑controlled lighting systems.
• Ability to work productively and professionally under time constraints.
• Strong understanding of lighting principles, tech, LEDs, and electricity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the light board programmer and operator for CoPA productions, concerts, or events as directed by the Master Electrician.
• Collaborate with the Lighting Designer to execute cue programming, effects, and parameter tracking.
• Oversee minor repairs or maintenance of lighting equipment for CoPA productions with support from the Master Electrician.
• Provide assistance with class concerts or smaller productions as required.
• Offer consultation on projection/video/audio requests pertaining to MIDI/OSC communications.
• Ensure adherence to Fire, Health, and Safety regulations within CoPA venues and productions, in coordination with University partners.
• Maintain flexible working hours based on project assignments.
