Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Light Duty Pickup Truck Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, and repair GM trucks and related equipment in a busy shop.

You will perform inspections, upfit installs, and discuss repair options with customers, while upholding safety standards and documenting all work.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a mechanic for light/medium duty pickups, especially GM trucks.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Experience in upfitting vehicles with aftermarket accessories is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on light and medium duty pickup trucks, with a focus on GM trucks.
• Conduct inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
• Use diagnostic tools to diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle problems.
• Perform routine maintenance: oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and DOT inspections.
• Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Upfit vehicles per customer specifications, including aftermarket accessories and lift kits.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines and diagrams for repairs and upfitting.
• Keep accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and upfitting work.
• Communicate with customers about issues and estimated costs.
• Collaborate with team to ensure efficient workflow.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain organized workspace.
• Other duties as assigned.

A Typical Day Looks Like

• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on light and medium duty pickup trucks, with a focus on GM Trucks.
• Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle problems.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and DOT Inspections.
• Repair and replace components including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Upfit vehicles according to customer specifications, including installing aftermarket accessories, lift kits, lighting systems, and utility racks.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines and technical specifications for repairs, service procedures, and upfitting.
• Keep accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and upfitting work performed on vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers regarding vehicle issues, repair options, upfitting choices, and estimated costs.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Do you have what it takes?

• Proven experience as a mechanic specializing in light and medium duty pickup trucks, particularly GM Trucks.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
• Strong knowledge of automotive systems and components.
• Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Experience in upfitting vehicles with aftermarket accessories and modifications is highly desirable.
• Certification from a recognized automotive training program or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
