Job summary

The Sharon at SouthPark in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Lifestyle Coordinator to join the Vitality and Well-being Department. This role designs, creates, and implements multi-dimensional programming to meet residents’ wellness goals and tracks engagement across programs.

The LC will support staff, manage events, assist with marketing content, coordinate resident orientation, and help maintain program budgets and policies. Strong leadership and a passion for senior well-being are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, schedule, and implement a multi-dimensional wellness program.
  • Lead staff activities including hiring, evaluation, promotion, and discharge.
  • Coordinate community-wide special events with senior leadership.
  • Plan weekly or monthly programming across living levels with timely planning.
  • Support marketing with photos and content for updates.
  • Manage campus communication systems to share programming information.
  • Assist new resident acclimation with orientation processes.
  • Submit monthly content to resident communication tools.
  • Maintain knowledge of program desirability and adjust offerings accordingly.
  • Collaborate on family events and engage volunteers as needed.
  • Update policies and procedures as required by leadership and resident needs.
  • Complete cross-training to support the Vitality and Well-being department.
  • Monitor resident safety, dietary restrictions, and rights.
  • Maintain department equipment and conduct annual inventory.
  • Prepare and operate within budgetary guidelines and plans.
  • Schedule community opportunities (speakers, instructors, entertainers).
  • Ensure holidays and events are properly planned with decor and supplies.
  • Report hazards and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of professional matters.
  • Attend workshops/conferences to meet licensure/CEU requirements.
  • Participate in committees and meetings as directed.
  • Drive facility vehicles for outings when needed.
  • Assist with event setup and housekeeping in activity areas.
  • Others as directed by DVW/senior leadership.

SUMMARY

The Lifestyle Coordinator (LC) is an integral role within the Vitality and Well-being Department. The LC collaborates with the team to design, create, and implement multi-dimensional programming that meets IL residents’ needs, wants, and goals. In addition the LC will support tracking participation and engagement of residents in various programming based on the parameters of determined wellness engagement and community wide objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Supports the Vitality and Well-being Department to create, plan, schedule, and implement a multi-dimensional wellness program. This includes, but is not limited to, offerings and opportunities that meet the emotional, environmental, intellectual, musical, nutritional, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational, needs, wants, and goals of the residents.
  • Manages staff; including participation in their hiring, evaluation, recruitment, promotion, and discharge.
  • Leads the team for community wide special events alongside the DVW.
  • Leads weekly and/or monthly programming based on individual interests and strengths for residents of various levels of living. Will be a collaborative effort based on timely planning sessions.
  • Supports marketing efforts of The Sharon with timely photos and content delivered to the marketing department for website updates, etc.
  • Manages campus communication system and services to provide programming information to residents.
  • Supports new resident acclimation through a mapped out orientation process that supports new resident’s needs, wants, and goals.
  • Submits monthly content to resident monthly communication tool.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of desirability and usage of programs, events, and/or offerings by residents. Communicates to DVW opinions, insights, and research to make necessary changes.
  • Works collaboratively with the team to plan and implement family events for residents and their family members.
  • Collaborates with the Community Outreach Coordinator on potential needs for volunteers and how best to utilize volunteer hours.
  • Supports the DVW with updating Policy and Procedure Manuals as determined by team member and resident needs and changes in the community over time.
  • Completes recommended or required cross-training sessions or meetings in order to best support the Vitality and Well-being department and residents across the continuum.
  • Is aware of residents’ physical and dietary limitations. Adheres to these limitations consistent with Residents Rights.
  • Maintains department equipment and supplies along with the team. Completes an annual inventory along with the DVW.
  • Prepares and works within the facility’s approved department budgetary guidelines and operational plans.
  • Completes required monthly budgetary procedures for review with the DVW.
  • Researches and schedules community opportunities, i.e. speakers, instructors, entertainers for social events, lifelong learning opportunities, etc.
  • Helps to ensure the community is prepared for holidays and special events with décor and appropriate supplies.
  • Remains on the alert for conditions that may interfere with the safety and wellbeing of residents. Corrects and /or reports hazardous conditions to appropriate staff.
  • Adheres to the defined policy for the Bill of Rights for Nursing Home Residents.
  • Each year, the LC will attend educational workshops or conferences which relate to therapeutic recreation programming and/or wellness programming, maintaining the minimum number of contact hours/CEU’s required by state license and professional certification.
  • Leads or participates as a member of various committees and meetings as determined by senior leadership or the DVW.
  • Drives facility vehicles to activity outings as needed.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping duties in activity areas as well as accepted room set up after events.
  • Works in compliance with all HIPPA regulations and standards.
  • Keeps professional matters confidential.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the DVW and/or senior leadership to support community wide objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a high level of flexibility and tolerance to adjust to changes in workloads, assignments, hours and days (i.e. holidays, evenings, and weekends).
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of activities.
  • Must exhibit the ability to give instruction to others and to lead.
  • Must have an understanding of the needs of older adults.
  • Must have willingness and an aptitude for working with a variety of people.
  • Imagination and creativity required.
  • Must exhibit a spirit of cooperation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Four-year college degree, from a recreation therapy or leisure service designated program, preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in a social or recreational program, preferred.
  • Licensed or eligible for North Carolina State Recreational Therapy Licensure (LRT), certified or eligible for National Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS), or Activities Director Certified (ADC), preferred.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned responsibilities provided such action is consistent with The Sharon policies and sound management practices.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize that errors in judgement may jeopardize the health and safety of residents.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal signs and symptoms, which signify a physical change in condition, which would require nursing interventions and notify nursing of these observations.
CERTIFICATIES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Licensed or eligible for North Carolina State Recreational Therapy Licensure (LRT) and certified or eligible for National Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS) or Activity Director Certified (ADC), preferred.
