Madison County Commission is seeking a part-time lifeguard for the Robert “Bob” Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center. The role involves monitoring swimming activities, teaching water exercise classes, and enforcing water safety rules for an audience largely aged 55+.

Certification in lifeguarding with CPR, First Aid, and AED is required. Responsibilities include observing swimmers, administering first aid, completing injury reports, assisting in events, and maintaining pool cleanliness.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine janitorial duties; keeps area clean and hazard-free.
  • Maintains attendance records and life-saving equipment.

Job description

This is specialized work in monitoring swimming activities and enforcing water safety rules and regulations at the Robert “Bob” Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center. Our membership is primarily those aged 55+.

Work involves responsibility for observing swimmers, leading swimming activities, and enforcing water safety rules and regulations in accordance with standard practices. Work also involves instructing patrons and performing routine cleaning and maintenance duties. Work is performed under immediate supervision and is reviewed by a supervisor through discussions and observations.

Applicants will ONLY be considered for this part-time position if they have valid lifeguard (CPR, First Aid, and AED) certification.

(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

  • Monitors swimming activities and enforces water safety rules and regulations
  • Observes swimmers; rescues swimmers in distress; administers first aid
  • Teaches water exercise classes
  • Complete injury reports
  • Assists in setting up and preparing for events
  • Assists in pool cleaning and maintenance; and keeps the pool deck and adjoining areas clean and free of potential hazards.
  • Performs routine janitorial duties to include, but not limited to, cleaning mirrors, windows, blinds, counters, furniture, sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash, picking up litter, replenishing paper products, cleaning restrooms/shower areas, etc.
  • Requires regular and prompt attendance, plus the ability to work well with others and work well as a team.
  • Assists in maintaining life-saving equipment; operates pool lift chair; answers the telephone
  • Keeps attendance records
  • Performs related work as required.
Education
  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the following listed knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Familiarity and willingness to work with the elderly population.
  • Knowledge of the methods, principles and techniques involved in lifesaving, first aid and water safety.
  • Ability to swim proficiently and effectively perform lifesaving duties.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to hear well enough to understand normal conversation, and to use radio and telephone to communicate with persons from a distance (hearing aid acceptable).
  • Ability to move objects more than 50 pounds long distances (greater than 20 feet).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees, patrons who use the pool, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move objects more than 50 pounds long distances (greater than 20 feet).
  • Work requires the physical ability to sit, walk, stand, climb, swim, lift and carry light objects.
Necessary Special Requirements

  • 7:30am - 1:00pm
