Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a lifeguard to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies until EMS takes over. You will ensure safety in the pool area, keep the deck dry, and perform water tests as scheduled.

Additional duties include supporting swim lessons or youth programs, and adherence to PHI handling policies and UH codes. Orientation will provide department-specific duties and expectations.

Qualifications

• Maintains safety and compliance in pool areas.
• Performs water testing and reports issues promptly.

Responsibilities

• Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe environment.
• Ensures safety of staff, members and guests in pool area.
• Maintains safe environment at all times, keeping pool deck dry, clean, and clear of obstacles.
• Perform water tests on pools and spas at specified times. Report any problems to supervisor or building manager immediately.
• May support swim lessons or team practices as aides, as needed.
• May be assigned to serve as a camp counselor, as needed, supporting youth programs and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for participants.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
