Job summary

The Salvation Army Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division's Kroc Center in Green Bay is seeking Morning and Weekend Lifeguards to supervise pool activities, assist with swim lessons, and support group fitness classes. You will monitor swimmers, enforce safety rules, respond to emergencies with CPR/First Aid, and help with light maintenance while following the state-approved aquatic staffing plan.

Qualifications

• 1 year of continuous lifeguarding experience in a group environment preferred.
• Experience working with adults, youth, and children.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Enforce Kroc rules to provide a safe environment for members, visitors and employees.
• Maintain constant observation of assigned area to identify signs of danger.
• Rescue swimmers in danger and provide first aid and CPR when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas.
• Provide excellent customer service to the community.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and inventoried; report defects.
• Set up and breakdown facility equipment as needed.
• Implement water quality tests per SOPs.
• Maintain records of programs and operations.
• Participate in staff training and in-service sessions.
• Follow Aquatics Staff Manual policies and procedures.

Job description

At the Kroc Center, you can tailor your schedule by choosing morning or weekend lifeguard shifts. Morning pool hours are Monday-Friday 5:30am – 1:00pm with the greatest need being between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Saturday the aquatics center is open from 6:30 am- 5:30 pm.

This position pays $16.16/hour with the opportunity to earn an extra $1.00 per hour by adding a Swim Instructor position to your role.

A shift differential of $1.00 per hour is paid for all shifts worked from 4:00 pm Friday through Sunday.

As a Morning Lifeguard, you will keep a watchful eye during group fitness classes, splash play and swim lessons taking place.

A Weekend Lifeguard oversees the lively open swim windows filled with family activities and exciting features like our splash play area with water tipping bucket and other water features including the always in demand indoor/outdoor water slide.

No matter the shift, our lifeguards play a vital role in creating a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment. You’ll monitor pool activities, assist patrons, enforce safety regulations, and support the State of Wisconsin–approved aquatic staffing plan. Light facility upkeep and cleaning tasks are also part of the role.

In keeping with the mission of the Wisconsin & Upper MI Division of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center located in Green Bay, WI provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage, and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.

Summary/Primary Purpose

The Lifeguard will assist with the implementation of programs, special events, and swim lessons. The Lifeguard will also monitor activities, observe and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life and enforce regulations. The Lifeguard will also ensure they are positioned in accordance with the State of Wisconsin approved aquatic staffing plan. Position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and perform other maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Considerately and patiently enforce Kroc rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors and employees. Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.
• Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger
• Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and provide first aid and CPR when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas.
• Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
• Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis, and report defects, necessary repairs, etc. to appropriate personnel.
• Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.
• Implement water chemical tests as determined by the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintain records regarding programs and operations as needed.
• Participate in designated staff training and professional development courses, including regular in-service training sessions.
• Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Aquatics Staff Manual.

Education And Experience

• 1 year of continuous experience in lifeguarding in a group environment preferred.
• Experience working with adults, youth, and children.
• OR –

Licenses And Certifications

American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required. Waterpark Certification preferred; must be completed upon hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The noise level will be high. Temperatures will be above normal room temperature in a high-humidity environment. This position will have exposure to chemicals and fumes typically found in a pool environment, as well as exposure to bodily fluids and other potentially infectious materials.

For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.

The schedule for the department requires employees to work weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
